Botanic Gardens of Adelaide – Bicentennial Conservatory

In the recent inspiration boards I created for the Spring Racing Carnival, I used a lot of rose photos by Mr Polka, which led me back to our lovely walk around the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide, South Australia we took a few years ago. Not only is it a great place to spend an afternoon but it’s also a gorgeous backdrop for wedding ceremonies!

My favourite spot is The National Rose Trial Garden- started in 1996, it’s a work between the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide and The National Rose Society. They trial all sorts of roses here to see if they’re viable to be grown in Australia.

The garden has plenty of space on the lawns for ceremonies and receptions (including space for a marquee) and looks over the Bicentennial Conservatory.

You can also marry or have your photos taken in the Northern Palm Garden, Economic Garden,The Secluded Garden, Bicentennial Conservatory, Palm House Lawns and Cycad Collection, Sunken Garden and Araucaria Avenue and the Summerhouse.

All ceremony bookings include a package of chairs, a signing table, welcome signage and a preliminary visit to discuss logistics.

Receptions can be held in The Summerhouse Rotunda, The Palm House Lawns, Bicentennial Conservatory, The International Rose GardenĀ  and The Schomburgk Pavilion Plaza. All with catering provided by the Botanic Garden Restaurant.

All weddings and functions at the gardens must be booked- this allows you the freedom to have your ceremony and take photos without running into masses of other brides. Check out the website here for more information on how to book.

06cake Cake Stories

Perfect for a spring garden wedding perhaps?

I love cake. Wedding cakes are often works of art and the varieties are endless.

I think aside from the wide range of flavours now in existence, the designs of cakes are becoming more beautiful every year as cake designers experiment with different techniques.

For something a little different I recently stumbled across Cake Stories. Cake Stories makes beautiful cakes reminiscent of a Martha Stewart magazine cover

Cake Stories was started by Nicholas Pelekis who is a French trained pastry chef. He brings emotion into his cakes and designs the most delicious looking treats personalised for each couple
