Ashley and Mike

Filed under: Polka Dots, Real Weddings · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:28 pm

I have the sweetest wedding for you today!

Ashley emailed me last week about her gorgeous Stephanie James Couture polka dot wedding gown. Ashley and Matt had a black and white vintage rockabilly wedding in sunny California and they look like they had the most fabulous day!

Photography by Pamela Marie Photography

Ashley wore a fascinator, which matched the cute 50’s style of her wedding gown

Never let it be said that getting into a wedding dress is an easy task!

Ashley and her bridesmaids

Ashley had each of her bridesmaids choose their own black gown (one chose the same fabric used in Ashley’s underskirt to feature on top of her gown). But they all wore black peeptoes!

The flowergirls

The gorgeous flowergirls wore dresses that fit into the black and white polka dot theme and were able to be worn again as party dresses.

The work of Stephanie James couture is such a work of art- I love the polka dot underskirt here and the pleating on the skirt. With Ashley’s perfect peeptoes it’s such a gorgeous look!

Ashley walked down the aisle to Johnny Cash

I love this shot- oh so rockabilly! Ashley and Mike used Cadillacs for their transportation

The couple partied at their reception with an Elvis impersonator- who was also skilled in Frank Sinatra and Johnny Cash!

The Newlyweds!

Congratulations Ashley and Mike! Thankyou for sharing your wedding on Polka Dot Bride!

Alex and Kristel - The Details

Filed under: Real Weddings · Posted by: Polkadot Bride at 3:30 pm

Earlier today Kristel was lovely enough to share her wedding to Alex with Polka Dot Bride readers, now we get to check out all the fabulous details!

Kristel told me she chose Maloman Photographers as “His style is the opposite of traditional wedding photography. It has more of a fashion/ photojournalist feel to it. Very candid and creative.” She actually found him before she started dating Alex! Stephen also captured her sisters wedding, who was married just two months before.

Kristel and Alex both wore Converse sneakers embroidered with her wedding date. Kristel’s wore white, Alex wore black.

Alex and Kristel used Stickam to broadcast their wedding live over the web to absent family and friends, who were able to watch live through the couple’s wedding website. Their friends were also able to participate in a web chat, so Kristel and Alex could read their conversation later!

Alex read his wedding vows from his Iphone, while Kristel took a more traditional approach reading hers from paper!

Tables were decorated with simple white daisies.

Each table was named after one of the couples favourite artists- including Radiohead, The Beatles and MuteMath.

The polka dot wedding cake echoed the pattern on Kristel’s gown

groomscake

The grooms cake, a record player made by his grandmother- a professional cake maker, was a nod to Alex’s love of music.

The couple gave a CD of their favourite music to guests- featuring artists like The Beatles and Iron & Wine

Alex and Kristel had a very intimate feel to their wedding and made sure every detail reflected their personal tastes and love of music (and technology!).

Kristel’s polka dot gown suited her funky personality and fit her like a glove! Both Alex and Kristel wore customised sneakers, which meant their feet were ready for dancing all night long!

Alex’s old band provided the reception entertainment, friends designed the couple’s wedding monogram, put together invitations and were genuinely supportive of the couple during their engagement. Kristel’s mother helped her plan the Miami wedding from Dallas, Texas just two months after her sister’s wedding.

The couple used a pastor they have known for many years and Alex’s grandmother baked the groom’s cake. Kristel said “The party was so much fun. Amazing food, amazing music, amazing people to celebrate with. We feel really blessed that we were able to have such a perfect day.”

I love the personal touches the newlyweds incorporated into their special day- little things like shoes, Iphones and music made the day special and truly them!

Thankyou Kristel & Alex and Maloman Photography for sharing this gorgeous wedding today!

Alex and Kristel

On May 31st at 4pm, Kristel walked down the aisle at Old Cutler Presbyterian Church in the Davis Chapel in Miami, Florida. This wedding features polka dots (again!) but also features some touches which are very much Alex and Kristel!

The couple first met in high school, although their paths rarely crossed. He was a guitarist and loved to act, she loved to work in TV. When Kristel was twenty she walked into a guitar store Guitar Centre and spotted Alex who worked there. Their friendship began and after a little of what Kristel calls ‘Myspace flirting” they fell in love and are now husband and wife!

Today I get to share their wedding with you! Photography by Maloman Photographers

While the groomsmen wore their suits and black converse sneakers. Alex wore a red daisy.

She arrived at the ceremony in a Mini Cooper.

During the ceremony, Alex played Kristel a song he wrote especially for her. The wedding took on a very musical feel with the couple choosing a string quartet to play their ceremony music. Kristel walked down the aisle with her father to “Something” by The Beatles.

The couple chose to wed in the church as it had a clean simplicity about it. It features a large cross illuminated from behind. Kristel had watched her best friend marry there in 2004 and Kristel knew immediately that the church was where she would marry.

The couple chose “All You Need Is love” by The Beatles to take their first walk as husband and wife back down the aisle.

Gorgeous shots- love the flare! (Check out Kristel’s shoes! More on those in the next post!)

The reception followed at Coco Plum’s Woman’s Club, a building built in the late 1800’s. Chosen for its high ceilings and stage the venue matched the couple’s personalities with it’s old world funky feel. The high ceilings also echod those of the church.

The couple danced to “Love Song for You” by Mike Coia from the band in which Alex plays.

Their first dance song (I listed to this while I was looking at Kristel and Alex’s wedding photos and it captured the moment perfectly!)Check back later today for the detail shots!
