Herbs add a wonderful fragrance to your wedding tables. They can be part of the main theme, set in large pots, or can be given to guests as wedding favours.

As with flowers, since ancient times, there are particular meanings given to each herb.

Basil – friendship, best wishes

Mint –wisdom

Rosemary – remembrance

Sage – wisdom, long life

Tarragon – lasting involvement

Parsley – celebration or festivity

Present them to your guests in tiny terracotta pots – either left natural or painted in a faded paint colour to match your wedding theme. Tie gardener’s twine, string or raffia around the pot and attach a label naming the herb and describing how to plant it, and its culinary uses.
Dried herbs in sachets or packets bundled together in a rustic basket will appeal to the ‘foodies’ amongst your guests, or inspire them to be adventurous.

Tussie Mussiesare bouquets made from herbs, leaves and flowers. How lovely to have the gardeners in your family contribute these, using the language of herbs and flowers to give special meaning to your day.

Gathered in tight bunches and traditionally finished with a doily and tied with ribbon, they would look fresh presented at each female guests’ table setting or on a table set aside for the guests to take one as they leave. The aroma alone would add another dimension to your wedding reception.
