Freya and Colin

We really do not showcase enough of the glorious country that is New Zealand on Polka Dot Bride! Today, another step towards changing that with this funky, fabulous wedding! Powder blue suits and toffee apples abound!

The stories, like the photos from this wedding are fun and full of cheer, so I think it’s best to let Freya tell you about the day!

“Freya set off for London in traditional antipodean fashion, on a pilgrimage to experience the bounty of the North. Upon arrival she promptly launched herself into a flurry of activities. An accomplished rower, she joined the Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club in East London, where she met a rather handsome fellow club member, Colin.   The rest they say is history.”

Freya and Colin were married at Matakana Church in  Kawau Kat. Freya walked down the aisle to “Pokarekare ana” as sung by Kiri Te Kanawa

After the ceremony, guests joined the newlyweds in enjoying gelato from Charlies before taking a ferry ride (with Kawau Kat) down the river from Sandspit to Freya’s parents’ home for the reception.

The retro bike from Mrs Jones added a like something special to the photographs. Freya says “They spring boarded into creative craziness with the news that Colin would be bringing a gorgeous three piece blue suit from the U.K. This inspired them to craft a whimsical modern vintage look for the creative shoot, using real toffee apples, an old bike, plastic apples for juggling, an instant camera and some scraggy flowers from the garden.”

The reception was held at Freya’s parents’ home.  It was newly built and finished just in time for the wedding!

The eight course degustation meal with local wines, including Chatham Islands crayfish sent by Colin’s Uncle Craig via Air Chatham. The three tier cake, featuring elements of both England and New Zealand was created by family friend Maxine Millard.
