Demelza and Tim

This afternoon’s wedding is a glamorous Sydney affair held at one of Sydney’s most popular hot spots! Full of big, bold but gorgeous touches, this wedding is filled with style and attitude.

Our newlyweds Demelza and Tim met in Europe. “We met at a bookshop. I was working full-time as a marketing manager at a publishing house and began to work part-time at Borders to save some extra money for traveling. I had a one way ticket to Europe  booked when I met Tim and my trip became a holiday.”

Today’s photographs are by Follan Photography who capture their shots with an air of high end glamour. Andrew has a talent to tap into the style the couple is after and captures their personalities through his work.

Demleza wore a gown designed by Karen Willis Holmes and paired it with a bold necklace from Oroton and emerald green Prada stilettos.  Demelza’s wedding day look was styled by Sandra Glynn Makeup Artist.

The day was filled to the brim with beautiful memories for Demelza. “The wedding was truly perfect, Tim and I are still in disbelief that it was so incredibly magical from start to finish. There were so many fabulous details all through the day. My nieces were incredible; Angel is six and Isis is five and they were so beautiful in their flowergirl dresses. My sister and her husband Lyle surprised me while we were getting ready with a bottle of Dom Perignon, while Tim’s sister surprised him with a bottle of Cristal champagne. The best of the wedding with having our families and friends with us to celebrate our marriage. In fact as Tim’s father is a minister he was the one who actually performed our wedding ceremony for us.”

Demelza and Tim held their ceremony at St John’s Church in Gordon. Not only was it right across the road from Demelza’s apartment, but the church rectory was where Tim’s family had lived for several years when his family first came to Sydney. Demelza walked down the aisle to a special song “It was  Fresh Feeling by the Eels. I love this song, it said exactly how I felt about Tim: ‘You don’t have a clue, what it is like to be next to you. I’m here to tell you, that it is good, that it is true.’ ”

Demelza and Tim held their reception at The Ivy in Sydney. Demelza says, “The reception was at The Sun Room in the Ivy. I knew I wanted this venue before Tim and were even engaged! I came home from work one day with an events industry magazine that had a quarter page advertisement about the room and announced that when we got married that’s where I wanted the reception. The staff at the Ivy were incredible. Alexis Killeen is the wedding executive and she was such an absolute pleasure to work with, nothing was ever too much trouble. We had a private tasting in the Sun Room prior to the wedding to choose the dishes and we were treated to our own wait staff and the chef came to talk to us about our choices. The food and wine were lovely. On the night we had an amazing team of people. Our guests were so impressed by the standard and service of the entire team.”

Demelza made some of her favourite details. “I wanted to letterpress stationery, but sadly couldn’t afford it, so instead I bought a small letterpress from the 1930s off eBay and pressed the stationery myself. It was extremely hard work and every piece was slightly imperfect but I had a ball. I also finished the bonbonniere with a fabulous team of helpers. I ordered the toffee apples from The Fudge Shop in Darling Harbour and then we finished them off with green ribbon and name tags so they doubled as place settings. Finally we had a ‘Wishing Tree’, by maid of honour Gissu who found it in a homewares shop. We did a little DIY to make it stand up. We bought little wooden pegs for guests to clip their cards to the tree. We also had Lindt chocolates given to us by Tim’s Aunt Lyndal to place on the table. In a happy accident the staff at the Ivy pegged the chocolates to the tree so that when a guest pegged a card to the tree they got a chocolate. It was one of my favourite details!” The couple had a two tiered emerald green and white wedding cake was made by Faye Cahill and flowers were styled by Plumbago Flowers.

The couple shared a romantic first dance. “It was to Stand By Me by Ben E King. It has been my favourite song since I was ten. It was lovely, we were a little awkward and shy, but it was just so nice to hold each other and just have that little moment together.”

One of Demelza’s favourite memories was having her guests close by. ” It was special being surrounded by our amazing friends and family. Almost half of our guests traveled to be there, some from as far as the US.”
