Edward and I met in London on Australia Day 2006 at a pub in Liverpool Street London through mutual friends. After getting to know each other we realised we had numerous friends in common back in Melbourne (where we were both from) including Edward’s sister whom I went through senior school with. Our relationship blossomed 12 months later in March 2007 when our friendship grew into love. After another 12 months in the UK we then relocated to Sydney in 2008. We were engaged on a beautiful winters day on 1 August 2009 during a picnic in Vaucluse on Sydney Harbour. We then moved home to Melbourne together at the start of 2010 to be closer to family and friends.
My wedding dress by Rose and Ruby (with additions by a Sydney dressmaker) was inspired by the simplicity of the 1930’s style. It was accessorized by a customised veil and headpiece made from matching lace on my dress by Sandie Bizys (Sandie Bizys Studio in Annandale Sydney). I wore vintage brooches on the dress as well.
My shoes were handmade to match my dress by Anna Fiori .
We married on my parents 33rd wedding anniversary at 4pm in front of family and friends at St Georges Anglican Church, Malvern on a warm afternoon. My parents own groom’s man and bridesmaid were able to attend my wedding which was special for my parents. Photos were followed at Malvern Central Gardens followed by the reception at 6pm at Arlington, Wattle Park Chalet, in Surrey Hills Victoria.
Our bridesmaids wore dresses from En Rose, Melbourne and the suits were from Antonio Oriti Uomo in Toorak. Our gorgeous flowers were from Flos Florum, Malvern.
Wandering entrees were served in the garden followed by a formal sit down dinner and dessert buffet. The guests were entertained by The Shuffle Club who played a hot blend of jazz, swing, blues, and boogie. The night was very heartfelt with wonderful speeches from both fathers, bride and groom, best man and finally entertained by Edward’s Irish cousin Kevin who flew over to represent the Hennessy relatives in Ireland who weren’t able to make it.
Having danced my whole life it was important for me to have a special first dance and a Rumba was choreographed by me and performed to ‘You’ve Made Me So Very Happy’ by David Campbell.
Ms Polka Dot says: To start the fresh new year off we have a beautiful wedding with touches of vintage and gorgeous colour. The stone church and the garden venue all add up to an elegant and stylish wedding. Congratulations on your wedding Alyssa and Edward!
