Your favourite wedding story?

There have been many but the one that always stands out for me happened a couple of years ago when a bride to be ordered her gown about 12 months out from her wedding then phoned about a week later to ask how quickly we could make her gown. We told her about 4 weeks to take her measurements, make her gown and to do her fittings and alterations. She explained that the reason for bringing the gown forward was that she was from the US and her family were very well off. They were putting considerable pressure on her and her groom to have the wedding in the US and to make it a huge event. This wasn’t what either she nor her fiancé wanted and he was becoming quite stressed about the wedding. Her plan was to take him to Hayman Island for a long week end to “get away from it all” for his birthday and then tell him that they were there to get married. She had a celebrant ready and the Island team were all ready with a beautiful setting and gorgeous dinner for just the 2 of them.

We made her gown and she flew off to Hayman with her fiancé and her secret. To cut a long story short she popped the question on his birthday on the Friday night and he said yes and they were married on the beach the Saturday evening. She was absolutely ecstatic that everything went well and even though the parents weren’t too happy we understand that they had a wonderful party at their house in the States on the day the actual marriage was to be and all ended happy ever after. This is a story of true love and one that still brings a tear to my eye.
