Champagne Region

When Mr W proposed to me along the river Seine in Paris, all I remember is the glint of the ring and the crying, from both of us.  Whenever we tell the story I always prefer Mr W’s version so here it is. Straight from the horse’s mouth.

Mr W’s Proposal

“After a day of drinking Champagne and getting a bit of dutch courage in the system I tried to find the perfect spot to pop the question.  The garden by Sorbonne University  was that perfect spot but once we got there  “DO NOT SIT ON THE GRASS” signs were everywhere.  The only other place to sit was a park bench which pigeons had desecrated.

Failing that idea, we went down to the river and found a little spot to sit and drink our wine.  The wine was flowing, the ring was in my hand and I was ready to do it, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, a tiny dog comes along, does what dogs do best and relieves himself right in front of us.  I had to take stock and after mentally preparing myself again I was ready to go.  It was at this point that I saw a homeless man stumbling down the path straight towards us.  He limped past with his bottle of bourbon in hand, lent up against a building a few metres from us and … need I say more.

Deflated, I thought it could not get any worse but I spoke too soon as a tourist group of about 30 people thought it was a nice place to sit and eat their lunch.  By now I was stressed and the wine was getting low so I didn’t have much time left.  It was now or never. So I dropped a knee in front of an unwelcome audience and the rest is history.

Looking back on it, it wasn’t the perfect proposal that I had in mind. But at the end of the day I get to spend the rest of my life with the most perfect girl”.

Melanie says: “I’m a kiwi girl who lives in regional Queensland and am planning a wedding in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Come with me as I experience the perils of organising a destination wedding in one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

Ms Gingham says: “I for one would very happily ignore a urinating dog or two and a hoard of tourist groups to be in France, with Champagne and a gorgeous new fiancee to top it off! Anyway, I’d be blinded by the sparkle coming off my ring to notice much else! Cheers and congratulations to Melanie and Mr W for sharing a most romantic and humorous story with us. I can’t wait to hear more about their wedding journey.”
