My ring

We live 16,945 kilometres from the venue of our wedding ceremony. It’s still nine months until our wedding day and while I have already started to worry that we might leave the rings at home, I am learning that there are a number of extra challenges involved in planning a wedding from afar. I look forward to sharing our story.

We purchased my ring from Samara James. We were so impressed by the service we received and we love the ring! Following our engagement in February and once the all important ring shopping was out of the way, our first big decision was the country of our wedding. This wasn’t easy. I was born and bred in Melbourne and moved to London nine years ago. Three years later I met my south-London man. My family and many good friends live in Australia, his family live here as well as lots of our friends. Whatever our choice of county some of the people closest to us would miss our wedding day.

In the end, and as we finalised the purchase of our first house in London, we settled on a Melbourne wedding. As we plan to live in London for the foreseeable future (sorry Mum!) we’re pleased that our wedding day can be in Australia and shared with those that live there. We’re both happy with the decision, as are my fiancé’s immediate family who are thrilled to have a good excuse to travel! We’re particularly delighted that some of our London friends are also hoping to join us.

We’ll have a party in London after our honeymoon and stag and hen parties before the wedding which will involve people unable to travel. We’re keen to make sure that as many of our friends as possible can be part of our celebrations.

So, now we’ve agreed the country, the real planning can begin!

Ms Gingham says: Weddings are so exciting but throw in an international trip and it’s double exciting!! I am really looking forward to following Taryn’s wedding planning journey.

Taryn says:We’re enjoying the challenge of planning our Melbourne wedding from our London home. I’ve been away from Australia for nine years and can’t wait to share the big day with our family and friends from both countries.
