Weiping & David

Weiping  and David had a beautiful classic Sydney wedding with a whimsical twist – their bright yellow colour palette is so refreshing and such a delight.

They explain how they met. “Dave: Through a mutual friend. Though we’re both from Perth originally, we only met after both moving to Sydney (independently).

Weiping: We met at a friend’s afternoon drinks. Dave was wearing my baseball cap that I had left at our friend’s house previously. I was none too pleased to see my cap on a stranger’s head. My first words to him were “hey that’s my hat!”

David and his groomsmen wore suits from Zink & Sons.

Weiping wore a strapless gown from Pallas Couture which she paired with Gary Castles Sydney shoes. Weiping says “I loved my gown and how passionate the ladies at Pallas were about making it perfect for me.”

Weiping walked down the aisle to Somewhere over the Rainbow (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole version) performed live by Gary Johns Band.

Weiping says “We had a wonderful ceremony that was so ‘us’.”

The couple hired Robyn Pattison to perform their ceremony. “Our celebrant was  amazing. We had no idea what to say for our vows but we wanted something that reflected our story and us. Robyn just made us talk and our stories were enough for her to craft a beautiful ceremony that was so touching and personal that it had guests in tears and laughter. Robyn is so friendly and easy to deal with and so obliging, she cannot do enough for you. She even went out to buy a new dress upon my request to wear something bright! She was absolutely perfect for our fun and relaxed vibe wedding.” Bright yellow balloons played off Weiping and David’s yellow theme.

Weiping and David were married at Doltone House. Weiping remarks, “Doltone House is a top notch organisation.  From the initial meeting to the lead up to the day, they were very professional and supportive. On the day, they were wonderful with their communication and organisation. The service was great and they were wonderful in calming down an anxious bride whose family was late for the ceremony. They even went looking for them! The food and drinks were plentiful and really good value. The staff were excellent in running the schedule. An absolute pleasure to deal with.”

The floral arrangements on the day were styled by Butterfly Philosophy. Weiping’s bridesmaids wore gowns from Alannah Hill and along with Weiping had their makeup and hair styled by Sophie Lau “Our makeup and hairstylist was great. She is great at what she does and I loved my hair and makeup. Also very friendly and efficient.”

The couple had signature yellow cocktails served to guests on their entrance to the reception. Butterfly Philosophy styled the floral arrangements and the reception. “Elaine was amazing. She is not just a florist but an amazing stylist who gave us direction to our initial vision and brought it to fruition that wowed our socks off at the mock-up. We wanted something along the lines of a whimsical woodland theme, she gave us giant helium balloons, sunshine yellow and white stripes to match the dark wood of Doltone House, half cut lemons amongst the flowers in the centrepieces, bright yellow dancing lady orchids, twinkling tealights everywhere, little woodland animal figurines and so much more. Elaine is not only very talented but super nice and obliging.”

The couple opted for a “cheese” cake from Signorelli Gastronomia.  Weiping recalls “Some friends weren’t sure the cheese tower was our wedding ‘cake’ and whilst on display during cocktail/canapes, started picking the decorative fruits around it.”

Weiping and David danced to Coldplay’s “Yellow” for their first dance to keeping with their theme. The Gary Johns band kept guests entertained all night. Weiping recalls “The Gary Johns band was great and everyone loved the music. We loved the way they started with light jazz during dinner and then the dance favourites to get everyone on the dance floor.”

Weiping says, “Our photo booth was a hit with everyone. People were queuing to have their photos taken and couldn’t get enough of it. I think there was the inevitable competition of who can fit the most people in one shot. We loved the resulting fun, crazy, candid photos.”
