Elizabeth and Andrew

What do you get when classic meets quirky? A wedding just like the fun one I have for you today! Elizabeth and Andrew made sure to inject plenty of humor into their wedding day.

Elizabeth recalls how she met Andrew. “Before Andrew and I met we had only one degree of separation. Andrew’s cousin was a good family friend of mine for about 10 years before we met each other.  We finally met when I started to attend a Christian surfers group that my sister and her boyfriend went to… and also Andrew! Andrew and I soon figured out that we both knew his cousin Chris and he got my phone number off him, however, Chris had the wrong number! So Andrew texted me (at the incorrect number) and asked me out for a drink… As I didn’t reply Andrew just assumed I wasn’t interested… which could not have been further from the truth! About 4 weeks after that had happened I knew it was Andrew’s birthday so I dropped into his work to say happy birthday but he wasn’t there (we kept missing each other). Eventually Andrew checked my phone number with my sister and realised that he had the wrong number! We very nearly did not end up together but luckily Andrew built up the courage to ask again (which was really for the first time!) and from then on we were pretty much inseparable.”

Photographs today are by the divine Louisa Bailey– I love how Louisa’s vibrant personality comes through in every shot she takes. She’s quirky but stylish and her photographs speak the same language.

Elizabeth wore a fishtail Pronovias La Sposa gown and Tony Bianco peeptoes.

The stationery was made by the couple, fitting when you learn of Andrew’s profession! “We made our own invitations and orders of service  Andrew is an artist so we never even thought that we would get anyone to do those things for us… We got a stamp made up for our orders of service and just stamped them onto some nice paper. And the invites Andrew designed and sent to a printer… it was very “economical”.”

Elizabeth’s bridesmaids wore black Basque gowns from Myer. The flowers on the day were styled by Voigts (03) 5964 6386

Elizabeth and her bridesmaids had their makeup done by a friend Sam. Elizabeth remarks “have been getting my make-up done by a girl called Sam for years and so I had her do mine, my mother’s and my bridemaids’ makeup on the day!”

Transport was provided by friend’s vintage EH and EJ Holdens . Elizabeth tells one of the funnier stories of the day. “I love high heels, so naturally i got my bridesmaids to wear really high shoes! which was fine until their car broke down on the way to the church… it wasn’t far away from the church so they walked from the car to the church… without their shoes.”

The couple married at Albert Park Baptist Church. Elizabeth says “The church we used was a beautiful old Baptist church and they were so accommodating! It had a fabulous exterior and lovely surrounding houses and streets which featured in some of our photos!”

Elizabeth walked down the aisle to “Belle” by Angus and Julia Stone. She says “We loved this song and it talks about a girl with golden hair and my mum always said I had hair the colour of gold so when we heard that line we thought it was a bit funny.”

The boys wore outfits from Jack London with shoes from Country Road.

The bridal party headed to Melbourne’s Luna Park for photographs. They turned into an attraction themselves- even having photos taken with tourists!

For their wedding “We wanted to have fun! We wanted to be a party! So I bought props from Spotlight, Kmart anywhere really that had costumes and masks, and we used those in our photos. It made sense to us not to have too many serious photos as we thought that our wedding was supposed to represent us as a couple and to date I don’t think there are many serious shots of us… why start on our wedding day! We also thought it would make for great photos!”

Elizabeth and Andrew continued their celebration with guests at Church 364 in Richmond. Elizabeth remarks “The reception venue was awesome as well… Church 364 is an old births deaths and notices building so it has really ‘old school’ fittings like big fires places and heaps of granite and lovely hardwood floors. It has been refurbished in a modern theme so it is very glamorous and quite contemporary. I loved it! Perfect for a cocktail wedding!” A three tier wedding cake was made by a family friend.

The favors tied in with the fun filled theme of the wedding. “We also made our favours… sort of… we actually had our guests make there own favour… we had a lolly table and the guests got a jar (which we bought from Ikea) and they could fill their jar with whatever lollies they wanted… We got a lot of comment about that… the guests loved it.”

Sugar Blue 0413 2468 09 provided the music for the evening, including a memorable first dance, explains Elizabeth. “We copied the dance from one of Andrew’s favourite movies “Pulp Fiction” It is a scene where Uma Thurman and John Travolta dance in a twist contest called “Jumping Jack Rabbits Twist Contest”. It is very funny and was very us.”

Congratulations Elizabeth and Andrew! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us today on Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to Louisa Bailey for sharing today’s images!
