Tom and Holli ….. and Poppy!

My Name is Holli and I am the bride in this wedding, my husband is Tom and we have a gorgeous little girl Poppy who is two. We really wanted the day to be as easy going and as relaxed as possible and we had about 120 of our closest friends and family attend. We live in Launceston, Tasmania and picked a beautiful location, the gorgeous gardens of Brickendon, a local farmstead and one of their barns to have our reception in.

I’m a bit of a foodie and catered the entire function myself and loved every minute of it. We had cheeses that I had collected from around the state as entrée/canapés, a cold buffet of meats and salads for a main and our amazing wedding cake from Alps and Amici for dessert.

We had eight in our wedding party and I let my bridesmaids and junior wear whatever they felt gorgeous in and the groomsmen wore vests with no jackets for a more relaxed feel.

It had been a really long day before we had even walked down the aisle and our little girl Poppy was so tired and upset she ended up walking down the aisle with my Dad and I, her teddy and some very red eyes. It didn’t matter one bit as I just wanted everyone to be happy. We had our close friend Rudy play his guitar and entertain the guests before I arrived and while we walked down the aisle. Our celebrant was Matthew Chester and he did an amazing job letting us add our own silly little poems and readings and making us feel relaxed. I had my dress made by a local Launceston lady and was having alterations right up until the week before as I’m pregnant with twins and was growing every week!

Our photos were taken by the amazing Nicola from Tantari Photography and I had organised some fun accessories for the photos like Red Ray Ban sunglasses, bunches of colourful balloons, vintage bikes with “Just Married” and painted tin cans attached. We took some amazing group photos so we would always remember who was at our wedding in years to come.

We are not the traditional type and we stayed together the night before our wedding. In the morning we went to the venue to complete the finishing touches, where I made the silly mistake of trying to open some trestle tables and one of the legs came flying off and hit me in the eye giving me a black eye on the morning of our wedding!! Luckily lots of make up could cover it up and nobody noticed.

We had an fantastic two piece band “The Geale Brothers” and danced to our first song (“Beautiful Woman” – John Butler Trio,) with our little girl. We had fun little activities through the night including a “time capsule’ where people would write their predictions for us in five years and we will open it on our fifth year anniversary.

All in all I loved our little DIY wedding and don’t think I would have changed a thing. The love we had from our family and friends was amazing and really made for the most perfect day for us!

Ms Gingham says: The beautiful relaxed vibe was achieved to a tee at Holli and Tom’s wedding! This is the perfect example of the meaning of “rolling with the punches” … even ones that leave you with a black eye!!!! Thanks to Holli for sharing her day with us.

Holli says: “I’m 25, recently married to my husband Tom and we have a little girl, 2 year old Poppy, with twins on the way due in September!!!”
