Lexie and Will

Today’s wedding extravaganza is completely divine. We first met Will and Lexie in April last year when they got engaged, today I get to share their wedding! From the garden ceremony, to the storm clouds rushing in and the romantic, beautiful first dance, these moments came together for Lexie and Will’s wedding day and created such beautiful photographs, and are an honour to share with you today.

Lexie recalls how she met her husband Will. “Will and I met at the start of 2006 (literally!), while we were both out on the town bringing in the New Year. After dating for a few months, Will found out he was being transferred to Darwin for work, and even though that meant we would barely see each other and be on opposite sides of the country, we stayed together. It’s true what they say, absence really does make the heart grow fonder! After doing the long distance thing for what seemed like forever, I was finally able to move up north so we could be together and the rest they say, is history! I guess you could say that we really beat all the odds.”

Photography today is by Dan O’Day Photography. Dan is such a master of wedding photography – his work isn’t typical. It’s raw, honest and hauntingly beautiful.

Lexie’s gown was almost a work of art. ” My dress was a Demetrios design, purchased from Nouveau Riche, Queanbeyan (02) 6299 2334 ‎. My gown had so many amazing elements… from the Swarovski Crystal embellishments to the handmade flowers surrounded by polka dot and pleated tulle that adorned the skirt.”

Princess Cherry Pie (mrsjeffo at gmail.com) styled Lexie’s makeup. Lexie remarks, “Vanessa is an absolute doll! She perfected my “glam” look to a tee and our makeup stayed perfect all day – even with the heat and rain!”. The girl’s hair was styled by Kurtz Hair By Design. Lexie says “Miranda (Will’s cousin) and Bec were absolute perfectionists when it came to our hair and did a wonderful job.”

Lexie and Will held their ceremony and reception at Grazing, Gundaroo. Lexie recalls “We came across Grazing in the winter, and even though the trees were bare and the flowers not yet in bloom we instantly fell in love with it.  The garden situated at the rear of the restaurant was the perfect location for the ceremony, and the stone stables with attached garden marquee gave both a rustic and garden party feel to our reception. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful every step of the way, and the food, sourced from all local produce, was nothing short of delicious!”

Lexie walked down the aisle to“Today” by Joshua Radin, which was performed acoustically by friends of the couple.

Lexie remarks “Our ceremony was joy filled from start to finish, and having our family and friends there to witness it made it even more special. Our first kiss as husband and wife is something we will never forget either – of course!”

Flowers From The Garden styled the floral arrangements for the day. Lexie says “Our florist Gerry of Flowers From The Garden was fantastic and brought our vision to life perfectly. ,My bouquet was a posy of fairy floss pink and ivory peonies (sourced from Melbourne at the last minute!), while my girls carried posies of green and white hydrangeas, lisianthus and chrysanthemums. Will wore a pink peony as his boutonniere, while the groomsmen wore green chrysanthemums to compliment the bridesmaid’s bouquets.”

Lexie’s bridesmaids wore “Tea length latte chiffon dresses by B2 by Jasmine, also purchased from Nouveau Riche. I gave each of the girls a large polka dot and pearl chiffon flower which attached to their dress – a little something to link our gowns together!” The groom and groomsmen wore suits from Roger David.

One of Lexie’s favourite memories is the feeling of the day. She recalls, “The thing Will and I remember is that we never stopped smiling ALL day! From the moment I walked down the aisle, when we both started giggling when the wedding rings got a little “stuck” half way onto our fingers, to the very sudden change in weather from bright sunny afternoon to moody storm clouds – and running back to the car, veil in face and all, to beat the rain! “

Lexie recalls “During our location photos, Will and I were able to steal a moment alone together where we could take everything in and share a private moment – which is always tricky on a day where we were the centre of attention!”

The stationery for the day was created by Alannah Rose Stationery. The couple created paper pinwheels to guide guests to their seats at the reception.

Flowers From The Garden supplied flowers for the reception centrepieces which were “an eclectic mix of family owned antique crystal vases, bottles and jars filled with assorted green and white spring blooms.” As for DIY elements, Lexie says “We had a very clear vision of what we wanted our wedding day to be, and DIY was a big part of that. We spent countless hours creating 90 paper poms (which were a hit with the guests) to adorn the chairs at the reception, “Love Sweet Love” bunting for the bridal table (strung with antique lace), place cards, and pinwheels for each guest which sat in little planter boxes and served as our seating chart.”

Made by Cake Of Your Dreams, a two tier chocolate mud cake was adorned with pink sugar blooms and polka dots.

A cupcake was placed at each place setting in shades of yellow and green. Lexie explains “I’m a massive cupcake fan, and I may have got Will a little addicted to them also! For this reason, we needed to include them in our day, so each guest was given a miniature vanilla or chocolate cupcake – topped with sweet little “Eat Me!” flags.”

In place of a wedding guestbook, the couple chose a fingerprint wedding tree. Lexie says “We also wanted something a little more personal than the traditional guest book, so we had our very own Wedding Tree created (sourced from Etsy) so guests could “leaf” their thumbprint.”

The romantic first dance photos are some of my favourites. Lexie says “Our first dance was to “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, and one of the most memorable moments of the evening. We were so focused on each other that for a few minutes, it felt like we were the only two people in the room.”

Congratulations Lexie and Will! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us today! Thank you also to Dan O’Day Photography for sharing today’s photographs with us!
