Bree & Kris
When a rainy day comes along, weddings are pushed inside, alternative plans are made and dreams are slightly altered. Today’s wedding though, didn’t change any plans, just added a few umbrellas.. and what a story they will have to tell of the day the magical mist started off their marriage together!
Bree tells the story of how she met Kris. “He spotted me out one night and in his usual charming, cheeky way, chatted me up. Not only was he handsome, he was a real character who made me laugh. I had such a good time with him whenever we went out.”
Photographs today are by Stephen Henry. I love, love how Stephen took advantage of the conditions and captured the magic of the weather, the unexpected glances and the elegance of Bree and Kris’ wedding style. Matt Barwick Films captured the wedding day video.
Bree and Kris held their ceremony and reception at Spicers Clovelly Estate, Montville. Bree recalls “It started as a beautiful autumn day with the sun’s rays warming to the occasion, but by afternoon a mist of rain had arrived to create the most romantic and elegant wedding scene.”
Bree’s mother (Sue Spires from Suzina Melina) styled the bride and her bridesmaids’ hair. Bree says “As well as doing all the hair, mum made a lot of the decorations, the bridesmaids’ hairpieces and fur wraps, our wishing well, table bows and posies, petal cones and decorative art.”
The bouquets of creamy white blooms were created by Wedding Flowers in Maleny.
Bree wore a strapless ballgown by Hilde Heim, shoes by Alan Pinkus and accessorised with family jewels. “My earrings were a wedding present from mum and for good luck I wore her wedding band and my sister’s wedding bracelet.” Her bridesmaids wore black dresses from Review.
Of their photographer, Bree says, “Stephen was amongst us all, instantly capturing all the moments and special memories of the day. I have hundreds of great shots of family, friends and my beaming husband and I. The autumn colours, beautiful venue and bridal party fitted together like a perfect match.”
Bree walked down the aisle to “Have I Told You Lately” by Van Morrison. She says “Kris and I both love old classics.”
At the beginning of the ceremony it was overcast and raining but as we were reciting our vows, the rain stopped and a ray of sunshine came down through the clouds right behind Kris and I. Everyone said after the ceremony how beautiful it was.
Guests were entertained with tunes from Rush Entertainment.
There were plenty of little helpful touches from family and friends. Bree explains, “My sister Naomi, her friend and I designed and made the invitations and one of my work colleagues (Seven Sweets by Karina Charles) made my beautiful three tier wedding cake.”
Bree remarks “The speeches were incredibly special. There were lots of laughs, tears and funny jokes that made everyone comment on how good they were. My family and friends mean a lot to me and I am very proud and grateful for that. My Dad was so, so proud.”
Surprise entertainment including Kris’ father! Bree explains “Kris’s dad played his old piano accordion, practising for days on end honing his skills. He hadn’t played since he was in a band 25 years ago so it was a real treat. It was a hoot with lots of clapping, dancing and cheering.”
One of Bree’s favourite memories of the day was “Having all our loved ones together in the one place. It had been such a long time since I had seen some people and a couple of Kris’s old family friends from Sydney had come up which really brought our two families together.”
For their first dance, Bree says, “We wanted to do something fun, different and unexpected so we had professional dance lessons and learnt the swing to ‘Cheek to Cheek’ by Frank Sinatra. Kris didn’t know I was wearing a full skirt so on the night he had fun trying to dodge my dress. It was so much fun and everyone was so impressed.”
Congratulations on your new life together Bree and Kris! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Stephen Henry for sharing today’s photographs!
