Nugget and Bec

I met Nugget 7 years ago through mutual friends and we became engaged in Japan while we were there on a snowboarding trip in 2009. Nugget proposed on the top of a mountain in the snow at Happo One, Hakuba. We were married on 1st of October 2011 at Nahmahlu House, Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island, Townsville, North Queensland.

My dress was by Perth designer Ruth Tarvydas. I loved getting to wear a beautiful dress for the day and feeling like a superstar! My necklace and earrings were a Vintage inspired diamond set that I found while shopping with one of my Bridesmaids. After agonising over whether to get them or not, the girls surprised me by getting together and buying the set for me as a wedding present. We used Oriental Lilies and Singapore orchids that we bought at the Townsville Flower Market for our bouquets and boutonnieres. The Girls dresses were hand made by my Mum Lorraine, who also made us matching dressing gowns which we wore while getting ready.

She also made miniature replica bride and groom outfits for the Ken and Barbie Dolls that were our wedding car dolls. It was so special seeing my Mum beam with love and happiness all day long!

The DIY was the part I had the most fun with while planning and styling the wedding. All of the quirky little details were either handmade by me or purchased from websites like eBay and etsy. And the best part is that most of the stuff that was made for that one special day has now found a happy little place in and around our home so we are always reminded by what a magic day it was.

Theboy’s suits were tailor made in Bali while Nugget was there on his bucks party. Their shoes were… Black Havaianas! The best wedding planner I had was my iphone! Any ideas I had went straight into the phone before I forgot them!!

Megan and Honey from Insight Creative were my one and only choice for wedding photographers. Having seen their work, I was completely in awe by their passion for what they do and the art that they create. We already knew them both, as did some of our bridal party and this made the whole experience really relaxed and fun; they even made a male model out of Nugget and had him posing for a few hours with minimal complaint! Megan and Honey spent the afternoon before the wedding driving all over Magnetic Island to find the perfect locations for our shots and their visions were astounding! How they can make a vacant block of land look like the most whimsical and magical place on earth is still beyond me, but they can!! The wedding photos were one of the only things that I knew I would get to keep forever from the day and I’m so happy with what they have created for us, from the prints to the coffee table book. These Girls are an explosive combination of talent and creativity.

Both my Dad and my Brother give me away and I walked down the aisle to ‘Gorecki’ – by LAMB. For the reception, I made a special wedding playlist on an ipod with all of our favourite songs and some great party tunes on there. We also had two good friends of our’s play live music for us. Our first dance was more of a boogie than a dance. It was with my Bridesmaid Cathy and it was to ‘You give me something’- by Jamiroquai – Nugget is not a dancer!

Our cake was made by one of my best friends Lisa Carey-Dooley from Star Sweets. She hand crafted Oriental Lilies and Singapore orchids to match the bridal bouquets. It even had trimming that matched our wedding invites, which were created and personalised by Pretty inviting! It was a 2 tier cake; top tier was white chocolate and raspberry with a bottom tier of double chocolate. It was DEE-LISH!

It was so special having our family and friends from all over the world be there to share our wedding day with us and of course, I got to marry the man I love and adore!
