Honeymoons are normally not a family affair but having a little girl that I could not bear to be parted with ours would have to be. This meant destinations like islands and far off places were just too difficult. Kangaroo Island seemed the perfect place, with it’s natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. The fact it was a short drive away also helped with our decision.

Kangaroo Island turned out to be perfect for us. It is stunningly beautiful and if we had wanted we could have just laid around on the beach the whole time. Having a 2 1/2 year old dictated otherwise, but then again KI has so many fun things to do it was wonderful to have her spurring us along.

We stayed at Cape View Cottage, which is a cosy house on the beach. It had everything we needed, immaculately kept and in a prime position. Being close to the ferry terminal was a blessing when we first arrived with an overtired toddler. Not to mention Penneshaw has incredible places to eat… it might be small but it sure packs a punch with it’s food experiences. Isola pizza was probably the most popular with our little family.

If you love wildlife and fresh produce this is the place for you. We tried honey, goats cheeses and yoghurts and freshly caught fish. We went to wildlife parks, were inches from kangaroos and koalas, walked bare foot on beaches, did a penguin tour and saw the pelican man feed pelicans! We always had something exciting to do and never felt bored because even just driving around is incredible.

The highlight would have to be Seal Bay. It is a breath taking place but more amazing than the scenery is how close you get to seeing the sea-lions in their natural habitat. I could have sat there and watched them all day. The tour guide had such a passion for these sea-lions you couldn’t help but listen to every word.

I couldn’t recommend Kangaroo Island enough, family or no family it is affordable, beautiful and full of unforgettable adventures. It truly is an untouched paradise.

Ms Gingham says: It sure is so great to hear about other people’s holiday experiences as it inspires you to choose destinations that you wouldn’t necessarily have thought of! It’s lovely to see our beautiful couples having such a relaxing time too!

Jess says: “My wedding was 50s inspired, all hand made. From my dress to my earrings. Everyone involved I knew personally except the car drivers. It made for a very relaxed and beautiful day. The photos by Mary Canning (a dear friend) are stunning and I think it proves that handmade doesn’t have to mean cheap.”
