There was a very vintage buzz in the air in Brisbane last week with a wedding expo of a different kind. ‘A Very Vintage Wedding Fair’ opened its doors for the very first time in Australia. The heritage building, Bleeding Heart Café & Art Gallery in Brisbane, was transformed into a treasure trove of all things old-world.

Lace, preserve jars and antique suitcases were on display in abundance, all setting the scene for the plethora of vintage experts that were on hand to help brides and their grooms plan their perfect day.

The brains behind the fair, photographer Debs Ivelja and wedding planner Rebecca Price of Weddingesque said they couldn’t believe there wasn’t an expo of its kind in Australia. “Brisbane has a lot of hidden gems and this was our opportunity to find them and give them exposure.”

Over the years vintage wedding themes have become increasingly popular and it’s certainly a style that is set to stay. Vintage themes create a romantic, elegant and often nostalgic feel to weddings and allow couples to add their own personality and create a day that truly represents who they are. Organisers recruited a colourful collection of wedding vendors to showcase key trends in fashion, flowers, photography and styling. “We wanted to get away from the traditional expos where vendors stand back behind trestle tables,” said Deb. “We wanted a cozy atmosphere and for people to feel comfortable and to chat with the vendors.”

A fashion show, featuring vintage inspired dresses from designers Jennifer Gifford Designs and The Forever Dress with hair and makeup by Fabulous Everything was one that would have left vintage lover Kate Moss swooning.

An eclectic mix of accessories ranging from hats, headpieces, parasols and veils were dusted off and showcased by Maudies Millinery, Silver Sixpence, Ties & Whimsy, Parasols with Love, Meredith McMaster Millinery and Can You Keep A Secret?

Inspiration was flowing freely at ‘A Very Vintage Wedding Fair’ with bewitching floral, stationery and styling ideas from Imbue Weddings, Little Gray Station, Kate Dawes Flower Design, Paper Dolls-The Lost Art, Hermias Wishes, Lenka Lane and Love Bird Weddings.

Whether you like the look of old-fashioned film or new age digital photography, ngg studios, Milque and Luke Going photography were all at the fair to show you how they can capture every special moment of your day. Retro Films showed an impressive Super 8mm motion picture format alternative to your regular wedding video style. Very vintage chic!

And if all the pretty, delicate details weren’t enough, hiding in the corner of the side room was the decadent Lemony Cupcake with a stunning dessert table. Hummingbird Vintage Hire also showed a stylish afternoon tea idea on the outside verandah.

If you were looking for your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue… A Very Vintage Wedding Fair had it all covered! I can’t wait for next years fair.
