An elaborately decorated cake is going to look a tad out of place at your relaxed homespun wedding, but that doesn’t mean you have to have a boring unadorned cake.

These irresistibly adorable peg cake toppers will be just the thing!

You will need:

  • Wooden clothespegs (available from craft stores)
  • Miniature silk flowers
  • Wood glue or hot glue gun
  • Paintbrushes (flat for doing larger areas and a fine tip for the details)
  • Black and white paint, plus the appropriate colours for your hair and tie

1. With the solid part of the peg facing to the front, paint on your dress using white paint, customising the neckline to suit your dress. Still using the white paint, fill in the top part of the other peg (from the ‘neck’ down) to form the groom’s shirt. Leave to dry.

2. Turn the second peg around so that your groom has legs. Paint on his tie and allow to dry. Use black paint (or mix with white to form grey) to paint on his suit, starting with the shape of the collar then filling in the rest. Paint hair on both the bride and groom (you won’t be able to show height or texture, so focus on getting the hairline right*) then dot on black paint to form the eyes.

3. Dot some glue on the back of the silk flowers.

4. Attach flowers to the front of the bride and allow to dry.

* However you could build up a bun using texture paint before painting on the colour.

So there you have it, super sweet personalised cake toppers that will only cost you some loose change.
