Rustic Queensland Wedding

Laura and Brenton

This has been the week of outdoor weddings on Polka Dot Bride, which is quite ironic seeing as how the cold has well and truly set in! Today’s wedding of Laura and Brenton is a little rustic and incredibly beautiful. A hidden Queensland venue set the scene for their big day.

Laura recalls how they met.  “We met at church but because everyone was telling Brenton ‘how perfect I’d be for him’ he completely ignored me for 6 months [he hates people telling him what to do].  It wasn’t until I moved into the share house he was living in at the time that he was forced to spend time with me.  It was when we started talking, laughing and watching movies until 3am in the morning (on weeknights!!) we realised there was something there and now look at us.”

Photographs are by Feather + Stone Photography (who, as a side note,  switched back to film a year ago so in case you were wondering, all the shots up until the reception of this wedding, were shot in film!)

Instead of traditional getting ready photos, Feather + Stone recommended Brenton have photos at his favourite cafe, choosing Gov’s, Brenton relaxed with his groomsmen as Feather + Stone captured the pre wedding pep up.

Laura wore a gown made by dressmaker Venita Drennen (who also made the pale pink bridesmaid gowns) and shoes from Vera Wang .

Emma Coombs Mobile Hair Artist styled Laura and her bridesmaid’s hair while Lillian Sutton styled their makeup.

Brenton and his groomsmen wore suits from Asos.

For her walk down the aisle Laura and Brenton struggled to find just the right song. Laura explains “This was a hard one for us to pick! We spent weeks deliberating and nothing felt ‘quite right’.  About 2.5 weeks before the wedding we still didn’t have a song to walk down the aisle to.  I was Googling aisle songs and saw another bride used a song off her favourite movie and this got me thinking.  My favourite movie is Singing in the Rain and my favourite song off it is ‘All I do is dream of you’ but it was far too fast, after more Googling I found the original version of the song which was slow, it was perfect.  I was over the moon when we had found it.”

Laura and Brenton held their ceremony and reception at Boomerang Farm Golf Course. Laura notes “We originally had another venue but when that fell through we were on the hunt again (only six months out!).  One of Brenton’s old work colleagues had used the barn at Boomerang and we saw photos and loved it.  We went out to Mudgeeraba and checked out the ceremony area and barn for the reception and fell doubly in love.  It was exactly what we were after and couldn’t believe how perfectly it all worked out.”

Laura describes the day as “Our most perfect day with family and friends where we expressed our genuine love for each other.”

Of their photographers, Laura says “Feather + Stone (Seth & Tenielle) are the most professional, amazing, kind, friendly, creative, talented (I could go on and on!!) photographers ever.  We are beyond impressed with our photos and everyone has commented on how amazing they’ve come out.  We were blown away at how well they captured us and our personalities on the day.”

Laura says “Brenton did all the invitations himself (he’s a graphic designer) and we put together all our bonbonnieres personally!”

The wedding was styled by Nicole Shield from Events of Design. Laura says “Nik was the best stylist we could have ever asked for.  She totally grasped the exact concept I was thinking and totally ran with it, coming up with some amazing ideas that I would never have thought of.  Even on the day when there were some drama’s with other suppliers, her quick thinking and creativity saved the day. She is such a lovely warm person that I was so glad to have around me during the wedding planning process and was always happy to receive a quick ‘what do you think of this’ text.  We can not recommend Nicole enough.”

Brenton’s aunty made a gorgeous two tier wedding cake for the newlyweds.

For their first dance, Laura says, “We actually didn’t have a traditional first dance.  We just wanted to have fun and dance with all our guests so we had some friends shuffle through the iPod and pick some awesome tunes to get the party started.”

Congratulations Laura and Brenton! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you to Feather + Stone Photography for sharing today’s photographs with us!
