Wedding place cards / Air plant party favors from Etsy

Hello Dotties!

This week we will be delving into the challenging task of deciding on who makes it onto the most covetable of lists… the guest list. I recommend arranging a ‘date night’ with your partner; this will allow you to discuss the guest list in a nice relaxed environment! With a glass of bubbly in hand, you can jot down your dream  list – the crème de la crème, the must haves and the maybes.

Once you have mastered “Guest List – Take 1”, you will then need to think about the following:

  • Your wedding venue ~ is there a limit to the number of guest you can invite?
  • Your budget ~ consider the price ‘per-head’ to feed your fantastic family and friends. If your budget has a limit {as most do!}, you may need to reduce the numbers a little.
  • How are you and your partner approaching the guest list? Are you sharing the number of guests equally? This is usually the best option and reduces the chance of arguments.

Each of you will have people that you simply HAVE to have with you on your special day, and they will be on the top of the list. There will be other people that you would love to have there on the day, but appreciate that if you have hit the limit on your side of the guest list, this may not be possible… however bartering and bribery may come in handy here!

After an evening of jotting down names and drinking bubbly, your list now almost there! I would now recommend that you put it to one side and revisit it in a week’s time. This will give you both a chance to think about the guest list and if needed make any final tweaks before the invitations go out and the RSVPs come pouring in.

With “Guest List – Take 2” now perfected, pat yourselves on the back and start considering the design of your Save the Date {watch this space for a post on this soon!}. These can be sent out as soon as the guest list has been finalised, and are a great way to ensure that your special day is firmly noted in your guest’s ever-hectic diaries!

Keeping a ‘fingers crossed, just in case’ list at hand is also a really good idea, in an instance where a guest unfortunately cannot attend, you will be able to invite someone from this 2nd list with such speed and efficiency they will never know that they weren’t on the original list!

How many people are celebrating with you on your wedding day?  How did you decide on your final guest list ~ we’d love to hear about it!

Happy planning, Jenna x
