I don’t know about you but I can’t get enough of chalkboards. It adds a laidback vibe and element of interactive fun to any celebration, be it rustic or more contemporary like this one.

Best of all, it’s a foolproof and cheap DIY.

For these projects I used:

  • Empty wine bottle (washed and dried)
  • Kraft board tags and number (from craft store)
  • MDF placemat (from craft store
  • Blackboard paint and brush

The only trick is to use a fine bristle brush and do thin coats (drying thoroughly in between) so you get a smoother finish that’s easier to write on.

As you can see, I created a table number, place mat, favour tag and bottle decor, but play around and see what else you can come up with. It’s such a versatile medium so the options really are endless.

This would be just the thing if you’re dreaming of a simple and casual wedding with long tables.Or, it’s not too elaborate to use at a rehearsal dinner or even just a dinner party.

Just make sure you leave some chalk on the tables so your guests can scribble away to their hearts’ content!

Ms Gingham says: Chalkboards are definitely the done thing at the moment. I love the idea of buying a frame and painting the insert to make a beautiful DIY sign too!
