Jane & Pete
Today’s wedding is nothing short of cheerful. Filled with bright rainbow colours, the soft sounds and sights of the beach and a whimsical, fun reception it has all the trimmings for a beautiful wedding day.
Jane tells their story. “I had been friends with Pete’s sisters for a while and had heard a lot about their brother Pete who lived in Sydney, and one day, I finally got to meet him when he turned up at church one day. Pete knew straight away that he wanted to be with me, but it took a thunderstorm, kayaking adventure, a surfing lesson……and a breakfast cereal dinner date, to convince me!”
Anna Pretorius Photography captured today’s wedding with plenty of colour, life and beautiful mountain top photographs.
The wedding kicked off with treasure map invitations handmade by the couple. Says Jane, “We had an adventure theme where the invites were like treasure maps. Then to help people find their way from the beach to the reception venue we had the directions rolled up, with a number of questions to keep them entertained on the journey!”
The French Petal put together brightly coloured floral arrangements.
Jane describes the wedding as “Fun, colourful, relaxed, with a subtle twist of vintage.” The couple hired a kombi from a local member of a kombi club to transport them on the day.
Jane and Pete were married on Fingal Beach.
Jane says “Their was no formal plan as to what everyone was going to wear on the day, I didn’t even know what Pete would be wearing! Despite this, it all seemed to go well together….we even got comments as to how well we had planned this!! ” Jane’s bridesmaids wore brightly coloured gowns.
Jane walked down the beach with her parents to, “the sound of waves with the distant strum of a guitar”. Jane says, “I arrived at the beach expecting a simple table on which to sign the register, but when I arrived they had laid out a beautiful aisle of flowers and rocks from the beach….what an amazing surprise!”
There was an unexpected drink for guests to enjoy after the ceremony. Jane explains, “For refreshments straight after the ceremony we served bottled iced coffee (black coffee, soy coffee or full cream) from Blackstar Coffee, in West End (Brisbane). We both love a good coffee, this is a favourite coffee shop and they do the best ice coffee!”
Of their photographer, Jane says “As we knew Anna and her excellent and inspiring photography style, we just knew we had to have her do our wedding photos. She is enthusiastic, professional, and amazing at keeping us all in check and on time on the day. We just can’t stop looking at the photos, we love them, and what a wonderful memoir of a perfect day.”
Jane and Pete held their reception at Mavis’s Kitchen. Jane explains “We really wanted an outdoor wedding – so we looked for venues that accommodated this. We chose Mavis’s Kitchen as they were so helpful and flexible to our needs. We were able to put up a marquee outside for the dancing, and were able to have the meal up in their restaurant with beautiful outdoor balconies and views of Mt Warning. ”
Radio Club Band provided the tunes for the evening.
The handmade table decor consisted of customised glass jars and spotty table runners.
In lieu of a traditional gift registry, Jane says “As we love travel and shared experiences we asked people who wanted to give us gifts to give us a bottle of their favourite wine, or a voucher to their favourite cafe or restaurant (anywhere in the world!)……so our wedding adventure will continue!” For wedding favours, Jane and Pete made up little bags of their favourite breakfast cereal in brown paper bags tied with red ribbon.
The first dance was spontaneous, Jane says “This wasn’t planned! we just heard the bands pumping tunes and couldn’t resist the dance floor! We ended up dancing to Superstition, by Stevie Wonder! ”
Cngratulations Jane and Pete! Thanks for sharing your wedding with us! Thanks to Anna Pretorius Photography for sharing today’s wedding photographs!
