Josh and Rose

A perfect sunny September day in the Hunter Valley for our magical “rustic/vintage/etsy” inspired wedding.

Josh and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary when he popped the question, I was totally taken by surprise but it was something I had been wanting to happen for a while. He is such a gentleman – asking my dad for permission before we went out for dinner.

We decided to get married on the 15th September 2012 as this would be Josh’s Grandparents wedding anniversary also.

Our biggest struggle was finding a venue to accommodate our large guest list, as Josh has a big extended family, we were lucky to have  beautiful Tocal Homestead a quick drive from where we live.

I searched on various websites to inspire the theme of the wedding (Polka Dot Bride was a frequently visited site and home to the many ideas I ended up using). I also found etsy had most things I was looking for.

My florist Amee was an absolute angel! I didn’t really know what I wanted, I just told her “I want a mix bunch, with antique tones and hints of purple”. I was so pleased to see what she came up with! They were perfect!

The bridal party walked down to James Morrison “I won’t let you go” and I walked to Josh Radin “Today”. Josh’s Dad made a sign for us to stand under for the ceremony only the day before the wedding after I had told him that I needed something at the end of the aisle.

I had this cute sign made on ETSY for our little page boy Mack to hold, I wanted to lighten the mood and Mack felt very proud that he was carrying “the special funny sign for Josh”.

I was so surprised that I didn’t ball my eyes out walking down the aisle – I could see that everyone else was. But I think it was nice that my dad kept whispering to me “am I walking to fast?” which my reply was always “yes”.

For signing the register we played the song “This Old Love” by Lior which is one of my favourite songs.

The grounds of Tocal set an absolutely stunning background for our photo’s, we didn’t need to do a location shoot as it is just so beautiful there.

Bridal party entrance song was “Another girl, another planet” by The Only Ones.

Because of our 130 odd guests, we chose to have a cocktail style dinner,  which was brilliant! We did have a bridal table and 3 large set tables for grandparents and anyone who would rather sit at a table, but everyone else used the bar stools and wine barrels or ottoman set ups. I think having it this way gave the evening a very relaxed feel and everyone got straight in partying and dancing!

Our cake was made by Bec’s Cakes at Rutherford, we had the little characters personalised to what we were wearing.

We had the cake knife upside down and accidentally broke the handle!

Our Bridal Waltz was to “Layla” by Eric Clapton which is one of Josh’s favourite songs.

While everyone was in having a great time, we snuck away to create this magical shot, one of the bridesmaids and Josh’s cousin ran around us with sparklers while James (our photographer) cleverly took the photo, it was really funny to create and our videographers captured the whole thing which is included on our dvd.

Here is the wonderful highlights video
