A Glass Of Bubbles With……Tabitha of Tabitha Emma

When we are able to chat to a talented Australian designer & illustrator about their wedding, it’s just a “squeal with delight” moment! Tabitha of Tabitha Emma has created a gorgeous blog showcasing her work, inspirations and ideas, producing a variety of design and illustration work in both print and digital media. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that her wedding was brimming with personal touches, artwork and style.

We sat down for a glass of (virtual) bubbles with Tabitha, and asked for her memories of her beautiful wedding day.

Tell us about your Wedding!

Our wedding was in May 2012. We decided to get married in a cooler month, to avoid a hot sweaty day. Which when you are nervous and doing a lot of running around and photos, would not be so nice. May just seemed the perfect time. We had our ceremony at the Sydney Uni Great Hall. We both have a love for old buildings and beautiful architecture, so we hunted around for lovely buildings to hold our wedding.  We also wanted to stick with an indoor setting, so we didn’t have to worry about a wet weather plan.  After deciding we wanted 150-200 guest, we know we also need something big enough to hold that many people comfortably.

Someone suggested to us the hall at Sydney Uni, at first we thought it would probably be too expensive, but looked into it anyway, and was surprised it was a good price, so we booked it in, it was one of the first things we organised. The building was gorgeous and really set the tone for the day. For our reception, we wanted to do it buffet style, so we would be able to affordably feed everyone.

Which meant finding a lovely old building, that was large enough for tables and a dance floor and somewhere to have a buffet set up. We soon discovered many of the town halls around Sydney were just perfect for what we required, and so we visited a few, until we fell in love with the Petersham Town Hall, which is art deco style (built in the early 30s), a style we both love. From there I began to piece together the feel of the day. Infusing some art deco, vintage style and a bit of a rustic Australian feel. We wanted the styling to be simple with beautiful details. As we both love vintage things and shopping in second hand stores, I spent many months tracking down the perfect props and decorations to create lovely details. As a couple we aren’t into modern and shiny, we are both more about texture, well made and rustic, and I think you can see that in our wedding decoration and styling.

What was your most memorable moment (or moments!)?

There were many memorable moments. One that stood out, was after the ceremony, we headed out to the quadrangle to mingle with our guests. My husband’s friend/our MC was out there playing the bagpipe. I knew he was going to play for our bouquet and garter toss that night, but having him in the quad was a surprise.  It created an amazing atmosphere, and really made the moment.

There was also that incredible moment when I first walked into the hall, and seeing all these people I have know from different places and times in my life, all in one room, there was something truly amazing about seeing all these people who have been part of your life all together celebrating this big moment. And I just felt so much joy around me.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?

I wish we had more help the night before the wedding. There was a lot of last minute rushing and stress, and made the day before less enjoyable, as there was a lot to set up, and so there wasn’t enough time to relax and take in the moment before I had to get off to sleep ready for the big day.

Who are your favourite vendors?

Photographer- Luisa Brimble of Serendipity Corner. Luisa is amazing, she is so full of energy, and passion. She took beautiful photos of our day, and people were talking about them for ages. It was great to have someone so enthusiastic that appreciated all the time and details that we put into our wedding.

Makeup- Makeup by Megan. Megan did an incredible job of my bridal makeup. We all looked gorgeous thanks to her! She did an amazing job of interpreting the look I was after. She also made us all feel comfortable on the day, as she is so friendly and lovely to work with. A very talented make up artist.

Hair- Melissa Cauchi Hairdressing. Melissa is amazingly talented with hair! She was able to interpret my ideas and make suggestions to make it even better, so that my final wedding hair style was just perfect and suited the whole wedding style perfectly.I felt confident throughout my wedding, as it stayed beautiful and perfectly in place all through the night.

Bouquets-Clementine Posy. My flowers were just stunning, she interpreted my ideas perfectly, the final bouquets were even better than I imagined, and suited everything else perfectly.

What advice do you have for others planning their wedding?

Don’t just follow trends, create something that says something about you and your husbands personality, and things that have meaning too you, there is no harm using a few trends, but personal touches are what really makes your wedding special, and it will always have special meaning, as you back on it over the years.
