I’d love to see a vintagey wedding, table scape or inspiration board using burgundy/maroon (without looking to dated as it was such a 90’s colour) using accent of taupes, woods, brown paper and twine AND also a pop of happy blue or aqua or turquoise!
My wedding venue has lovely natural wooden tables and maroon leather upholstered bucket chairs that I wish not to cover up. Problem is I’m unsure of my direction with the rest as I do want some happy vibe of colour inserted. I would love a shade like turquoise but am unsure if it would work. If you can’t help, no-one can!

Here are some ideas for colours – some a little out of the ordinary – but choose the elements that resonate with you.
Spring green and maroon

- Twigs for a natural look and taupe napkins.
Turqouise and maroon
Think
- Bird vase fillers
- An aqua sash on your gown with garnet earrings and a jewelled garnet clasp
- Add maroon napkins to a blue table setting
- Keep the look clean using a white tablecloth and a maroon table runner with maroon vases and blooms. Keep the wood of table showing.
Maroon and naturals
Think
- Maroon combined with chocolates, taupes and creams
- Rust coloured bridesmaid gowns paired with a latte coloured wedding gown
- Chocolate brown branches used as wedding decor
- Handmade paper containing seeds
Maroon and pops of bright orange
Think
- Autumn tones! Autumn leaves, Autumn colours!
- Rustic branch hearts as decor
- Orange blossoms in your bouquet
- Orange twine
For any of these colour schemes, your natural wooden tables should be a real feature. Keep the brown paper and twine to a taupe colour. The taupe colour goes with any of the above accent colours and your maroon, and could be the ‘calming’ colour in your scheme.
You need your natural wood and taupe colour to ‘dampen’ down the boldness of your maroon – and only add pops of your chosen accent colour – otherwise it could look a little carnival-like! Your twine could be used as a napkin tie, around favour boxes to tie paper pompoms (make them in maroon with the occasional one in your ‘pop’ of contrasting colour) or lanterns. String fairy lights around to add atmosphere or outside the venue to add a magical quality (and give the feeling of lightening the maroon colour).
Look on Etsy for cute wooden hearts, twig things etc with a vintage look.
