Lauren & Jakeson

Today’s wedding is a little bit rustic, a little bit vintage, a little bit romantic and so very very Lauren and Jakeson! Two self confessed book lovers, Lauren and Jakeson held their Toowoomba wedding outdoors and decorated with their favourite thing- books!

Jakeson tells their story. “We were friends during high school in Toowoomba. After we graduated we managed to stay in contact. In the beginning of 2009, Lauren moved back from London and settled in Brisbane not far from where I was living. After rekindling their friendship …the rest is history. But it is said Lauren was won over by my cooking abilities, and I was quite taken by Lauren’s quirky sense of humour.”

Gorgeous photographs today by Paper Fox Studio that capture the richness and depth of today’s wedding celebration.

Jakeson and Lauren loved, “Having Lauren’s 90 year old grandfather fly up from Canberra, and Jakeson’s 86 year old grandmother come from Hervey Bay for the wedding. Lauren wore her maternal grandmother’s wedding ring on her right hand, along with her paternal grandmother’s engagement ring. The aquamarine earrings Lauren wore originally belonged to her great-great aunt, making them nearly a hundred years old.”  Lauren and her bridesmaids wore gowns from WTOO from Watters.

Lauren and Jakeson held their wedding at The Gabbinbar Homestead. Jakeson tells, “The Gabbinbar Homestead was built in the late 1800s by a former Premier of Queensland. Over time it began looking a little tired, but it has recently been restored, from doorknobs to chandeliers.”

Lauren walked down the aisle to “The Badger” by The Tea Party.

Of their photographer, Jakeson says, “Kristen Ashton from Paper Fox Studio was great. She was friendly, engaging, and professional. Whilst guiding us towards an ideal time for photos on our wedding day she was very flexible. Her style was just what we wanted for our wedding and we felt relaxed when in front of the camera.”

Jakeson describes the wedding as, “A DIY garden wedding for book lovers. We DIY’d as much as we could. Plus help along the way from family and friends. We collected the glass bottles and jars used as vases. A family friend did all of the flowers. Lauren and I designed and sewed together the order of service. My sister, who is a graphic designer, helped designed the wedding invitations. My mother made and decorated the cake.”

The sweet bird cake topper was purchased from Indigo Twin Weddings.

Books, as mentioned, were everywhere! Jakeson explains,  “Our mutual love of books inspired our not only our table decorations but also our gifts to our guests. We chose a selection of classic novels, from Dickens’ Great Expectations to Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. With the beautiful spacious lawns at Gabbinbar, we felt some garden games were necessary. We set up a game of bocci, kub, and Gabbinbar provided a croquet set too. A camera on a tripod and a collection of false moustaches, hats, glasses and chalk boards for messages provided some laughs during the evening.”

Of their first dance, Jakeson recalls, “Whilst we had planned to get dance lessons, we ran out of time. So with a little help from YouTube, we waltzed’ to a Zooey Deschanel cover of “Dream a little dream”.
