Kate & Nik

There is nothing quite like quirky weddings where absolutely everything is thrown from the traditional into something that is truly personal. Kate and Nik threw a rockabilly celebration with a vegan, high tea reception. So fun, so Melbourne and most importantly, so Kate & Nik!

Of how they met, Kate says, “Our dear friend Kieran saw love signs before we had even met. Then we met at Ding Dong (a bar/band venue in Melbourne) one night and over 5 years later we married!”

Goldsmith & Co. captured the fun, retro vibe of today’s celebration!

Kate designed her own retro inspired gown and had it made by Jenny Clipperton Dressmaker (0411 467 120).

Kate walked down the aisle to Amy Winehouse – ‘Between The Cheats’. Nik remembers, “Kate’s nephew Aidan walked her down the aisle after her dad and youngest nephew Lachlan walked down the aisle. We had family all in the one room who haven’t been together in 3 years and longer. Some family got their passports for the first time at 50 years old just to come to our wedding! Everyone dressed up in their 1950’s day wear so it just looked a treat. ”

Kate and Nik chose the historic Reading Room for their wedding. Kate remarking, “Both the ceremony and reception were at the Reading Room in the Fitzroy Town Hall – Melbourne. As the name suggests it was the original Library. With high ceilings, original bookcases, chandeliers & polished floorboards, it was the ultimate venue for us and especially Nik and his love of old books.”

Kate notes, “Nik’s parents performed the ceremony (they are Salvation Army Ministers who live in South Africa). ”

Of their photographer, Kate says, “From the day we met Brett Goldsmith & his wife we knew we had made the right decision. He told us he was going to get up in our faces on the day to get the best pictures and he did just that; but because he was such a easy photographer to be around we didn’t notice him! We got the best feedback & the photo’s tell the story.”

Of their first dance, Kate remembers, “It was at the Napier Hotel after the ceremony – a sneaky twirl between photos – just the two of us! ”

Kate, with the help of family catered the vegan high tea, placed on vintage crockery from A Vintage Affair.

Mister Nice Guy Vegan Cupcakes baked the vegan wedding cake and provided all the guests with a vegan cupcake favor!

Congratulations on your marriage Kate & Nik! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to  Goldsmith & Co. for sharing today’s wedding with us.
