To complement the gilded leaf place cards from last fortnight, here is a gorgeous diy table numbers idea.

Hit up your local op shop for some bargain used frames (this one was $2) and old books. I used an old botanical illustration book but you could use anything that suits you, such as old classics, animal illustrations or text in the language of your origin.

1. Cover the numeral with a layer of gilt using the gold leaf pen. If a more aged look is desired, rough up the surface by rubbing the surface and edges with a dry cloth.

2. Meanwhile, trim the book pages down to size and adhere to back of mat using a glue roller. Attach the matted page to the frame backing to achieve a rigid surface using glue roller.

3. Using a small amount of craft glue, adhere the numeral to the centre of the book page.

Now you have wedding table numbers that are earthy, vintage and elegant all in one. For the best effect, pair with flickering tealight candles to catch the light on the metallic surface.
