Sophie and Marty

While Summer is almost upon us (not that you’d know judging by some of the latest weather we’ve had!) Winter weddings still hold a special place in my heart and today’s incredible Winter celebration, beautifully photographed by Ginger & Mint Photography of Sophie and Marty is enough to get the couples planning a Winter wedding for next year (or our Northern hemisphere friends) inspired!

Bride Sophie tells, ” We had a relatively short engagement of 6 months because we had already planned an extended overseas trip to Europe for July and August that we decided should be our honeymoon. Once we made our decision to have the wedding in June everything else just fell into place.”

Kate Radford styled the bride and bridesmaid’s makeup and Sophie’s hair while Salon Jenaire Waterfront Geelong styled Sophie’s bridesmaids’ hair. Sophie recalling, “Kate is she is so talented and a such a professional. A delight to have around while getting ready. So gorgeous! Jules Salon Jenaire did bridesmaid’s hair – amazing job and again she was so nice to have around on the day.”

Sophie wore a gown designed by Jane Hill. She tells, “My dress was designed by Jane Hill. Jane made me feel so special from my very first visit and she had a vision of my dream long sleeved lace dress. Going to her beautiful bridal salon for fittings was exciting in itself and a great experience. She was much more than just a dress designer, also a wedding stylist too helping you with any aspect of your wedding. She is a beautiful and very talented woman. ”

Georgie Stanton styled the floral arrangements in rich tones of burgundy, mauve and plums. Sophie remarks, “I loved our amazing florist. I didn’t have many photos to show her of what I wanted because it was a bit different to the norm, but what she created was so far beyond my expectations , well and truly going above and beyond. It all came together beautifully- very talented lady.”

St Mary of the Angels Basilica, Geelong was chosen for the ceremony, Sophie noting, “Our ceremony was at St Mary of the Angels Basilica which is a beautiful Catholic church in the centre of Geelong. We were married by Father Dillon.”

For her walk down the aisle, Sophie remembers, “The organist played Trumpet Voluntary “.

Despite the couple’s prediction, Victoria turned on a beautiful clear Winter day. Sophie explaining, “We expected a typical winter’s day and we weren’t going to be bothered by it..but when the sun was out we just couldn’t believe how lucky we were! It was just beautiful!”

Of their photographer, Sophie tells, “Verity was incredible! I knew from our first meeting that I had made the right choice. Her bubbly and outgoing personality brings out the best in everyone to get stunning natural shots, but above all she is just a fun and happy person to be around! Exactly what you want on your special day!”

Sophie switched up her look for the reception, she tells, “I wore a beautiful silk tulle veil edged with the same Italian lace of my dress for the church ceremony and location photos, but then wore a floral head circlet for our reception. The head circle was made from the same fresh flowers as our bouquets of roses, David Austins and peonies flown in from the Netherlands which I just LOVED! The flowers were deep burgundy, mauve and plummy tones that I matched with a plum lipstick. It gave the wedding a rich, warm wintery feel. It was great fun to have two different looks on the day!”

Truffleduck, Balmoral Reception hosted the reception celebrations, Sophie remarking, “Our reception was just out of Geelong in Fyansford at Truffleduck, Balmoral Reception. The reception itself is magnificent and they have an amazing florist/ stylist Georgie Stanton. Truffleduck are in a class of their own, they are so professional and take care of everything down to the tiniest of details. You don’t have to worry about a thing! They even had newly installed beautiful gas log fires to create a really warm and cosy setting which was perfect for our winter wedding.”

“My sisters did a speech that took me completely by surprise, they had me crying with laughter! They were hilarious! Marty’s speech also had me in tears! All of the speeches were fantastic.”

Of their first dance, Sophie recalls”Marty and I started having dance lessons because we thought it would be fun, but neither of us enjoyed it! Instead of doing our proper dance we had a a bit of a twirl to ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ played by our band Five Letter Word and got everybody up! ”

Five Letter Word was hired as the musical entertainment to get guests and keep guests on the dance floor. Sophie remembering, “Five Letter Word kept everyone up all night dancing – fantastic to deal with and they took many requests on the night- a sign of a great band for sure!”

Congratulations on your marriage Sophie and Marty! Thank you for sharing your day with us, thank you also to Ginger & Mint Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us!
