Beckie & Warrack

The modern hotels that are popping up around the place are absolutely fantastic venues for an ‘all in one’ wedding venue.  The Olsen Hotel, being one of my Melbourne favourites, was just the right choice for Beckie and Warrack’s modern wedding day, captured by Ben Capp, allowing them to sleep, celebrate and eat all in the one place!

Beckie and Warrack’s met at a bar story goes a little like this, as told by Becky. “We often joke about the fact we wished we had met in classier venue. We were both at after work drinks at a less than chic pub in Port Melbourne. I (Beckie) spotted Warrack at the bar and made the first move. A few dates on and we’ve never looked back!”

Beckie chose a simple gown by Lisa Ho and paired it with Badgley Mischka shoes.

Beckie and Warrack met before the ceremony for photographs.

Of their photographer, Beckie remarks, “Benny Capp took our wedding photos – he’s a Melbourne based portrait & fashion photographer and a good friend of ours, he did an incredible job. We’ve got some beautiful pictures to treasure forever.”

The Olsen Hotel  hosted the couple’s wedding in South Yarra, Beckie telling, “The Olsen is such a beautiful backdrop for a wedding and the simple colours and furnishings meant we could make it our very own. All of our family were coming from NSW and country Victoria, so it was important to have a central location and the accommodation meant that everyone stayed the night and made the most of the party. It turned into a weekend of festivities, which made it even more enjoyable and memorable for everyone.”

Beckie recalls one of the funnier moments of the day. “In true Beckie style, I, of course, had to go to the toilet just as I was supposed to walk down the aisle. Rewind 27 years and I’d done the same thing at my auntie’s wedding when I was a flower girl. The moment was captured on camera – my dad standing with my bouquet and shoes as I dash off to the loo!”

Bertie Blackman performed at the ceremony, Beckie telling, “Bertie Blackman is a close friend of ours and she performed a Mazzy Star song for the processional that we both love. Our guests haven’t stopped talking about it! It was one of the most special parts to the day.”

“Our dear friend Emma read a poem by John Olsen’s favourite poet. Which was very fitting for the venue and our friendship.”

Bianca Filer arranged the flowers for the wedding, Beckie explaining, “The flowers were by my dear friend Bianca, who didn’t need any briefing at all. She knew what I liked and loved.”

The white florals were featured amongst hand picked greenery from Warrack’s family garden, Beckie explaining, “Other than the usual jars for candles and flowers, I also asked my mother-in-law (to be) to bring some foliage from her garden. We had large lemon tree branches and blue gum from the yard to decorate the space. It was extra special as Warrack grew up among it. It was a touching addition to the white theme we had for the flowers.”

Burch & Purchese created the surprise wedding cake for the couple, a nod to Warrack’s love. Beckie tell,s “I surprised Warrack with a ‘wedding’ cake all of his own. He was obsessed with Lego as a child and it influenced his career as an adult, so I ordered a Burch & Purchese cake in the shape of this favourite toy. Which, of course, he loved!”

The couple chose not to have a first dance, instead, Beckie tells, “I actually had the first dance with my father, who’s been teaching me the waltz for the last thirty years! It was lovely to share that moment with him.”

Congratulations Beckie and Warrack! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to The Olsen Hotel and Ben Capp, for sharing today’s wedding with us!
