Catherine & Campbell

I may have fallen in love with Catherine’s sapphire blue wedding gown in today’s celebration (and her sweet baby bump). Catherine and Campbell chose to celebrate this marriage, twelve years in the making at an inner city art gallery. Surrounded by incredible photographs and finishing with an equally incredible sit down dinner.

Catherine kicks off the day with the story of how they met. “Campbell and I met at Melbourne University and had known each other for a few years before we finally got together at a friend’s 21st birthday party. When I arrived at the party I didn’t know anyone else there, when Campbell finally walked in the door I was so excited to see a familiar face that I made an absolute beeline over to him. I kept him talking all night, so much so that no-one else at the party even attempted to join in, for fear of interrupting us.”

Catherine remembers, “I started the day with getting ready at home with two girlfriends, we spent a fun morning gossiping and getting our hair and make up done.”

Stunning silver shoes started the bride’s look – Miu Miu from Net A Porter.

Catherine chose a Roberto Cavalli from Net A Porter gown, remembering, “My first task when looking for a wedding dress was to tell my best friend that I was pregnant! Once that exciting news was out of the bag, then we could start the first day of shopping. I was not interested in a white wedding dress, and didn’t have a clear idea of what style I wanted, so shopping consisted of trying on many completely different dresses. In the end, I found an amazing blue dress online and took a chance that it would still fit my growing belly. Thankfully the fit was perfect, the soft material and draping were really comfortable and I felt beautiful and elegant all day. My jewellery was all borrowed from my mum. The earrings and brooch were hers and the hair clip was passed down from my grandmother.”

The couple met before the ceremony for photographs, Catherine telling, “We had photos in the Treasury Gardens. Meeting Campbell in the gardens before the ceremony was lovely, any nerves disappeared and I knew we were in this together and the day was only going to get better.”

Flower Jar created white and green floral arrangements for the day (with succulents included!)

Catherine and Campbell held their wedding at Arc One Gallery. Catherine explaining, “We wanted a small indoor venue, in the city with fantastic food and wine and so we had our ceremony and reception at Arc Once Gallery in Flinders Lane, organised and catered by Cumulus Inc. Luckily for us, the gallery exhibition was photography by Sam Shmith which we absolutely loved and suited our evening perfectly.”

Catherine walked down the aisle to and instrumental version of ‘Beyond the Sea’ as played by Adrian and Ryan of Perfect Day Music.

Meriki Comito married the couple, Catherine recalling, “A special moment was our vows, we wrote them together and although we both thought we would be in tears and it would be tough to get through them on the day, in fact we were both smiling and enjoying the moment!”

After the marriage certificate was signed and sealed, the couple sat down with guests at one long table to dine on a delicious feast catered by Cumulus Inc. Catherine telling, “The organisation and catering was fantastic, Andrea at Cumulus Inc took care of all the event details and made the planning process very easy. Needless to say, the food and wine were amazing, and overall the experience was exactly as we had hoped.”

Catherine loved, “Leaving out most of the wedding ‘traditions’ and choosing to use only those that made sense to us (our families were horrified that we didn’t get a huge wedding cake – that was until that tasted the delicious Cumulus Inc dessert!)”

The first dance was rather spontaneous, Catherine explaining, “We were not planning to have a first dance! But our friends had other ideas – after the speeches they conspired with the band, and announced that were we going to dance. Once that was said we couldn’t really say no, so we managed a minute or two of gentle swaying before convincing our family and friends to join us. Although we didn’t intend to dance, it was a fun way to end the evening.”

Congratulations Catherine and Campbell! Thank you for sharing your day with us!
