Nikki & Simon

When I first saw Nikki’s incredible floral print wedding gown I almost lost my breath. It was the most beautiful choice for Nikki and Simon’s romantic brewery wedding captured by Angela Higgins.

Nikki tells the story of how she and Simon came to be. “Simon and I first met when we were both serving in the Royal Australian Navy, he was posted to the ship I was serving on in WA. We were working in the same department, I was instantly attracted to his athletic looks and the fact he was ridiculously hilarious. Soon after, our ship was deployed to the Middle East off the coast of Iraq.

During our 6 month deployment we spent as much time as we could together (which is not easy with 200 pairs of eyes watching you). When we returned to Australia, Simon wasn’t quite ready to commit to a serious relationship so we went our separate ways for a few months but still remained close. While on a holiday through Europe later that year, I realised just how much I missed him and that I couldn’t wait to get home.

After my holiday, our ship was based in Melbourne and Simon and I began dating again. One day we went shopping together and Simon told me to wait in a hardware store. He came back to get with a bunch of pink and white lilies (my favourite) and told me that he loved me. I knew the wait had been worth it and that I would spend the rest of my life loving him.”

Simon chose a black suit from Hugo Boss with his groomsmen wearing Roger David suits.

Fox and Rabbit created the floral arrangements for the day.

Nikki chose a floral print gown from Wendy Makin. She tells, “I originally had purchased a couture wedding gown from Wendy Makin, however upon discovering I was going to have a surprise baby bump for our big day I decided to change gowns. This is when Wendy made me her Kaitlyn floral gown. Though I was a bit worried it might be too different, I loved it and I still get a lot of comments for it now.”

Nikki’s bridesmaids wore gowns from various stores, Nikki telling, “I also wanted to mismatch my bridesmaids as they all have very different styles. All I did was specify the dresses be floor length and they co-ordinated them perfectly.”

Nikki and Simon chose one venue for their wedding The Old Brewery. Nikki explains,”We had both our ceremony and reception at The Old Brewery right on the Swan River in Perth’s CBD. I had wanted the Old Brewery to be my wedding venue since I was a teenager as it is such a gorgeous building in a perfect setting and it meant guests didn’t have to travel between locations. Simon and I didn’t even bother looking at any other venues.” The ceremony furniture was hired from and styled by Bride + Groom Store  and Jana’s Touch.

Nikki walked down the aisle to A Thousand Years Part 2 – by Christina Perri and Steve Kazee.

Dru Soltys performed the ceremony, Nikki noting, “We wrote our vows to make our ceremony more personal and to commit to each other in our own words. A cyclist rode past during the ceremony and yelled “I DO, I DO” at the top of his lungs.”

Of their photographer, Nikki tells “I first discovered Angela Higgins about 12 months before Simon had even proposed (I was and still am a bit of a wedding junkie). I loved how Ange used natural light to capture couples in their happiest moments, they just seem to glow. I wanted to be able to hold onto that feeling.”

As the couple had chosen to hold their wedding at the one venue, guests were welcomed inside the The Old Brewery  for dinner.

There was a very unique guest book! Nikki explains “We added DIY touches by having a Message In A Bottle Guest Book. A friend’s dad made a beautiful wooden wine rack to hold 10 bottles. Each bottle was labelled with an anniversary and guests filled them with messages for us to open at that milestone.”

The Glory Box made a ruffled ombre wedding cake in shades of latte.

Nikki remembers, “Our first dance song was performed by our wedding singer Nikki Pelecanos. Nikki sang Ed Sheeran’s Give Me Love. As I was 6 months pregnant we just did the hug and sway.”

Nikki and Simon, thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Congratulations! Thank you to Angela Higgins for sharing today’s images with us!
