Pia and Marty
Pia and Marty had an old world romantic elegance to their day. A touch of traditional glamour in amongst their own personal details (like gold horseshoes!) makes this romantic Perth wedding, captured by Arlene Bax Photography a feast for the eyes.
Pia tells the story of how they came to be. “We initially met at a friend’s wedding, where Marty was a groomsman and I was a bridesmaid. But it wasn’t until three years later when we bumped into each other at a pub and Marty asked me out on a dinner date the following week. We were inseparable after that.”
Pia wore a gown from Zanzis Bridal with gold sandals from Jimmy Choo. She tells, ” The night before the wedding Marty surprised me with a beautiful bracelet, which I wore on the day, it matched my earrings so it was perfect! Something old was my Mother’s handkerchief, which was given to her when she was 16. Something borrowed was a gold clutch from my sister-in-law Joanne, which was her wedding purse. Something new was my dress & shoes and for my something blue my Mum sewed blue beads onto the front my underwear.”
Pia and Marty hired wedding planner & stylist White Events to pull together their wedding day. Planner Lara telling, “They were such a fun couple, so in love and full of spirit. Pia was a very stylish bride, a very pretty and petite girl, Pia said she everyone always said she was “cute” so she wanted a wedding dress that would be far from “cute”, so the amazing backless, low-cut Zanzis gown was perfect with her super high gold Jimmy Choos.”
Zinnia Floral Designs created the floral arrangements for the day.
Church of Christ the King Beaconsfield was chosen by Pia and Marty for the ceremony, Pia telling, “We were married at Christ the King Church in Beaconsfield. It is a beautiful church, perched high on the hill, overlooking Fremantle, the harbour, and our beautiful coastline. Our brothers and sisters were also married there, along with many of our friends.”
Pia walked down the aisle to, “An instrumental version of “More Than Words”. We signed the papers to Bernard Fanning’s “Watch Over Me” and left the church to “Sweet Disposition” by the Temper Trap.”
Of their photographer, Pia tells, “I loved Arlene Bax’s style; she knows how to capture personalities and moments. She can tell a story with just a single picture.”
Pia and Marty chose to host their reception at South of Perth Yacht Club. Pia remarking, ” It is in a nice, central location and could hold our guest numbers so we transformed the ballroom into the stylishly rustic look that we wanted for our reception.
Planner Lara notes, ” The pre-drinks area was styled using plants rather than blooms and a selection of cocktails were served while guests mingled.”
Pia tells “My sister- in law Jess designed our invitations which we absolutely loved, the wording described us and gave a light-hearted feel.”
Guests were given truffle oil as a gift with the words “We’re truffed you could be here” written on the tag.
Pia has a background in wine, Marty in horses so both interests combined to create unique wedding centepieces. Pia explaining, “Marty loves horses so we sourced some horse shoes from a farrier, cleaned them up and spray painted them gold to tie back in with the colour of the mine and my flowergirls’ shoes. These were placed on the tables and around the venue with plants and floral arrangements. We also love our wine, so we used a variety of wine boxes for height and to give the rustic feel. Prior to the wedding my bridesmaids popped into op-shops and found some vintage bottles, and prosecco glassware which we used these on the tables for flowers.”
The Black Truffle created tables laden with desserts and cheese for the couple. Pia telling “I also wanted traditional Italian desserts to reflect Marty’s Italian heritage, so we had The Black Truffle Delicatessen & Providore cater for this. We felt it gave a personal feel to our dessert bar with traditional home-style Italian sweets like biscotti, crostoli, cannoli and limoncello tiramisu.”
“Walking into our reception was just the best feeling, we knew we were more solid as a couple than ever and it was time to celebrate with all of our friends and family!”
Of their first dance, Pia remembers, “Cathrine Summers sang at our wedding reception and did an amazing version of the Al Green song “I’m So In Love With You”. We didn’t have dance lessons, so it was just straight off the cuff. It was very romantic, but hilarious at the same time!”
Thank you Pia and Marty for sharing your wedding day with us. Congratulations on your marriage. Thank you to Arlene Bax Photography for sharing today’s images.
