We’re back in the Polkadot Travel Lounge for 2014, and can’t wait to hear the tips and secrets from our Travel Experts we have lined up ‘specially for you! Today I am joined by the lovely Jessica Byrnes of Check-in.com.au! Since launching back in 2002, Check-in.com.au has successfully established itself as one of Australia’s leading online accommodation booking destinations, offering access to the hottest hotel deals from over 150,000 properties in Australia and worldwide.

Jessica has been generous enough to share with us her honeymoon travel advice, including the best  hotels and destinations – and some particularly unique tips for a romantic proposal!

What is your favourite region?

The Kimberley in Western Australia. It is one of the most natural and unspoilt regions in the world. Also home to Broome and its stunning Cable Beach sunsets.

Stay: at the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa

Experience: A sunset camel safari

Top Resort Recommendation?

For absolute luxury? Gili Lankanfushi Maldives. The overwater villas on this intimate island are perfect for honeymooners, private & luxurious and dining options are beyond romantic. Think private dinners on a secluded island, seafood over the lagoon or the underground cellar where you can taste incredible wines, handmade chocolates and artisanal cheeses.

Suggestions for great honeymoon activities.

Do something adventurous together. Skydive in Fiji; go diving with sharks in the Cook Islands; climb a volcano in Peru; learn to surf in Maui. That way you take something home that you’ll remember forever.

The ideal location for a proposal?

Somewhere intimate – get away from the city – the more remote the location, the better. Think like Prince Will who proposed in a remote Kenyan hut. What about a beautiful treetop hotel in South Africa?  Or for something a little more local – try glamping at Paperbark Camp in Jervis Bay, NSW.

Best kept secret honeymoon location?

Everybody goes to Bora Bora & The Maldives but if you want to do something different, try Samoa.

Stay: At the Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa

Experience: a swim at the stunning Togitogiga Waterfalls.
