Caitlyn & Jack

Winter is such a beautiful time for a wedding and this glorious high country winter wedding of Caitlyn and Jack has everything I love – warm fluffy jackets, the misty country hills ad a love story you just can’t beat. Caitlyn and Jack chose Sophie Timothy Photography to capture their wedding day.

Caitlyn tells the story of how they came to be. “We had both just moved from country Victoria to Melbourne and began going to the same church, so we first met there. Jack was living on campus at uni and I was spending a fair bit of time visiting friends who were also living there, so we began running into each other at the uni bar, etc as well and became good friends through that. Jack was keen early on but it was a good year or so before I realised there might actually be something more there!”

Caitlyn and Jack married at the local church, Caitlyn explaining, “The ceremony was held at St Andrews Uniting Church in Mansfield which is a beautiful and cosy little church I had attended for a few years when I was young.”

For the music choices, Caitlyn remembers, “The bridesmaids walked down to The Mortal Boy King by The Paperkites and I was meant to be walking down to a beautiful acoustic version of Beautiful by Phil Wickham – however there were some sound issues and a very interesting karaoke version is what ended up playing as I entered!!”

The bridesmaids, who wore different gowns each added a vintage fur coat to keep warm, Caitlyn remembering, “I loved the fur coats the bridesmaids and I used between photos – they were all vintage fur, borrowed from friends and family.”

Of their photographer, Caitlyn tells, “Sophie is a friend and she was just starting out with her own business when we began looking for a photographer and we loved her style so it was perfect timing!”

“As we were getting our photos taken a man was driving past in a tractor so the boys called him over, deciding it would be fun to get some photos with him. I then realised it was actually the Dad of a friend I had gone to school with so we had a bit of a chat and a good laugh together!”

The couple handmade the table decorations, including the name tags which were hand stamped by the bride. Caitlyn remarks, “The birch table ornaments and name tags were some of my favourite details. We also used a little suitcase for the cards. It had belonged to Jack’s Nan and as a little boy Jack had insisted on taking it on a train trip to Sydney. Everything had significance, was made or donated by someone we knew and/or meant something special to us.”

The newlyweds chose Pinnacle Valley Resort, Merrijig  for their reception celebrations, Caitlyn telling, “The reception was at Pinnacle Valley Resort in Merrijig which is about 20 minutes past Mansfield, right at the bottom of Mt Buller. We loved the beautiful setting, being surrounded by mountains and trees with wild kangaroos hopping all over the grounds!”

The speeches were one of the evening’s highlights for the bride. “The speeches were great – fun but meaningful and my extended family had put words to some fun songs about Jack and I and our whole courting process!”

For the first dance, Caitlyn recalls, “Our first dance was to Beth/Rest by Bon Iver. He is my favourite artist and it is a beautiful song so it was a very special moment despite us both feeling rather uncomfortable to be up there swaying in front of everyone!”

After dancing the night away, the newlyweds left their reception, Caitlyn remembering, “I loved having all our friends and family in the same place to celebrate with us.”

Congratulations Caitlyn and Jack! Thank you for sharing your story with us! Thank you to Sophie Timothy Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
