Hello August! The last month of Winter is here which means Spring weddings are gearing up – the countdown is on for a busy wedding season ahead! While some of us have jetted off to catch the last snow of Winter (Ms Gingham!) the rest of us are diving into a week full of fun wedding inspiration! So let’s get started!

With a name like Polkadot + Moonbeam you know I’m going to have fallen in love with this week’s vendor of the week – what’s not to love when polka dots are involved? Music can add such a feeling to your event – whether it’s fun and whimsical, something a little upbeat or the old classics of jazz!
The Polkadot + Moonbeam duo of Didi and Juliet perform acoustic tunes on a ukelele, melodica and bass using their voices to create romantic sounds. Imagine their voices singing you down the aisle, their jazz repertoire playing throughout your garden party, their Latin grooves kicking in on the dance floor!
We asked Didi (Moonbeam) and Juliet (Polkadot) from Polkadot + Moonbeam five questions in five minutes –
What is your favourite after five drink?
Polkadot: As full-time musicians, our after-work hours would be past 11pm, so my favourite drink would usually be a nice warm chamomile or just warm water to help me unwind and relax before bed! 🙂
Moonbeam: I am fortunate enough to have a father-in-law who always seems to have a half-finished bottle of wine in the fridge. This has made half a glass of Polkadot’s dad’s unfinished wine my favourite after work drink.
Your favourite weekend getaway?
Polkadot: We don’t usually plan our respite, we enjoy spontaneity! But due to our line of work, most often our Mondays are our Sundays. A good ‘getaway’ for us can be hanging at a nice cafe, or Subiaco Street Markets (if we aren’t working), writing a new ditty or catching some live music in Fremantle. Tripping on a quaint cafe, gallery or boutique in an unfamiliar neighborhood can be a real treat too.
Favourite restaurant?
Polkadot: Moonbeam is more the foodie. I enjoy a variety of exotic and regular teas and hop into these Mexican, Indian, Italian and Lebanese food adventures with Moonbeam! We find Guzman Y Gomez’s cuisine most authentic and a real treat to look forward to. Moonbeam also cooks up a hearty healthy meal at home for the both of them winning the vote for Polkadot’s favorite restaurant! 😉
Moonbeam: I have been a fan of Mexican food since I first discovered it in my 20’s via pub-grub nachos, and subsequently have been lucky enough to have tasted the real deal in Tijuana in my 30’s. So yes, Guzman Y Gomez in Northbridge is an unassuming treat for me, fresh, fragrant and authentic Mexican food.
What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?
Polkadot: We occasionally delight in the good ol’ Eggs Benedict at a nice Sunday brunch cafe.
Moonbeam: We prefer the smoked salmon version, as long as the smoked salmon isn’t too salty
Your favourite wedding story?
Moonbeam: My favourite by a clear mile was our own wedding just this September 2013, where together with some friends we reproduced the opening dance segment to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, with yours truly dancing the part of the Shagadelic One. My first and most definitely last stint as assistant dance coach (assistant to Polkadot, she’s the trained dancer) and lead dancer.
Polkadot: Our wedding… Exchanging our vows was a special moment for me. How we met was most unplanned, unprecedented, and serendipitous. A miracle I’d say! But our relationship has been a long journey of trust and faith in love, and blessed by many dear friends and families who were also present on our wedding day. We feel very grateful for our everyday together.
