Georgie & Nick

Georgie and Nick wanted their wedding to reflect exactly who they are “classic but not stuffy” so their classic country wedding, held at Georgie’s parent’s farm was just the prettiest place to celebrate their marriage with their nearest and dearest. They chose Dan O’Day to be there to capture every moment.

Georgie tells the story of how they met. “We met at a fairly unfortunate pub in Fitzroy in Melbourne, introduced by a mutual friend.

Nick suggested on Christmas Eve at my parent’s property (where we ended up getting married) that we go for a drink on the back hill; I drove the quad bike whilst he carried the esky and drinks. When I accidentally went over a big bump and broke the bike we had to stop. Sitting in the long grass looking over the valley Nick pulled out my mum’s good crystal champagne flutes I got cross at him for taking them – imagine if they had broken on the bike!!! Nick told me to stop worrying – then bought out some beautiful French Champagne and I started to get a little suspicious! Whilst watching the sun setting over the valley Nick pulled out a beautiful ring, I burst into tears and of course said yes! We then had to walk all the way home! It was so special to celebrate our engagement with all our family present on Christmas.”

Georgie and Nick chose Georgie’s parent’s property for their wedding, noting,  “Mum and Dad’s property, where we got engaged and a very special place for both of us, as I also grew up there. As the wedding was in an olive grove and a garden we tried to reflect this where we could. We were so, so, so lucky, as two days before the wedding we had torrential rain, storms, hail and gale force winds.

Considering we had spent the best part of a year getting the garden ready this was a concern (it also made installing the marquee pretty tricky!) on the day though we woke up to 25 degrees, sunny and no wind – it was absolutely perfect! I have also had some very dear family members have had beautiful country weddings.

We loved the relaxed feel that they had and wanted that for ours as well. The brief for the night was that we wanted a relaxed day with a great party at night – and that is exactly what we got. We had a lovely recovery breakfast at the farm the next day, it was great seeing everyone stagger back in, dance floor weary, and recap on the great night.”

Georgie’s bridesmaids wore dresses from Gorman with the bouquets and floral arrangements on the day by Clarence of Healesville, Georgie remembering, “They were recommended to me as a great florist and we couldn’t have been happier. The team were so delightful to work with and couldn’t have been more easy going!”

The couple were married by Graeme Bradbeer, Georgie remarking, “We had Graeme Bradbeer the reverend from Nick’s old School. My parents also got married in his chapel so it was a lovely piece of symmetry.”

Of their photographer, Georgie notes, “I actually met Dan about 6 years ago on a backpacking trip, we met in Prague and traveled together for a while. I have followed his career and work and when it came to choosing a photographer there was no other choice. It was so special to have an old friend taking such good care of us on the day!”

The family farm features olive groves, so of course the bride and groom made sure guests got to enjoy it! Georgie noting, “As we produce our own olive oil on the property we decided to give everyone a bottle of oil, these also served as the place cards on the table.”

The Baker Boys  made for an amazing dance floor, Georgie remarking “A good dance floor was a critical part of the brief, and it is fair to say we nailed it. You know it’s a good night when all generations are on the dance floor! The band was incredible and so lovely as well.”

A big congratulations to Georgie and Nick! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Dan O’Day  and Karen Willis Holmes for sharing today’s wedding with us!
