Bridgit & Shaun

Sometimes a touch of elegance is all that is required to make a wedding really beautiful. Bridgit and Sean chose an elegant Watsons Bay wedding to start their marriage off in style. Mother Nature bucketing down rain for two weeks prior to the day, stopping magically ten minutes before the ceremony! If that isn’t magic, I’m not sure what is! Will Hartl of This Day Forward was there to capture their day.

On how they met, Bridgit remembers, “We met 8 years ago; Shaun was sharing an apartment with my friend.  He finally asked me out 6 years later.  We were together for 2 years before he proposed.”

Bridgit walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D played acoustically.

Bridgit and Shaun chose Robertson Park for their ceremony, the bride remembering, “We had terrible weather in Sydney all week.  Awful rain.  Everyone kept telling us that we need a plan B but I was adamant that my ceremony would be under the fig tree in Robertson Park.  That was my whole vision.  We decided that the only way we would move the ceremony would be if it started hailing. I woke up on the morning of the wedding to sunshine.  It was perfect.  I was so happy and suddenly felt so relaxed. We began to get ready, it was a beautiful day.

My ceremony was at 3pm.  It was 2.50pm and I was about to step in to my dress, then it started to rain.  Not just rain, I mean REALLY come down.  They started to pack up the chairs and canopy from under the fig tree and everyone moved under cover at the hotel. I started to cry. My father and Maid of Honor all were telling me that we have to do the ceremony in the bar downstairs.  There was no way I was doing that.  I insisted that we wait.  It will pass. It came to 3.30pm and the rain eased.  I made the quick decision that we are doing it in the park and we are doing it NOW.  They quickly set up the ceremony again under the tree and I literally ran from the hotel room down to the park.   I got what I wanted and I am so happy!  It was incredibly stressful but a great story.  The photos of me looking out the window captures it all wonderfully.”

Kathryn Breusch performed the marriage ceremony, Bridgit remarking, “Our celebrant was a friend of ours that we have both known for many years.  Having her marry us was very special.”

The couple married under the fig tree, just as they dreamt, under a vintage canopy from Elements for Hire.

Of their photographer, Bridgit notes, “Will is very passionate about his work. He spent a lot of time prior to the wedding getting to know us and sharing the vision we had of the day. He was a pleasure to work with and we could not be happier with our photos.”

Reception celebrations continued next door at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel. The bride telling, “It is very light, white, rustic – has a very seaside Hamptons aesthetic.  The views of the harbour are spectacular. Many small glass bottles and vases of beautiful delicate flowers decorated the reception by Jane Lampe of Floreat Floral Design.”

Bridgit remembers, “Our first dance was to 1000 Years. When we heard this song we both knew that this was the song we would dance to. We had a lot of fun practicing but then forgot it all on the day! But it didn’t matter of course.”
