Sam and Lisa
Being Summer, the season of love, special memories and a touch of the sporadic, Sam and I decided it was the perfect time to have an engagement session! Since we live in the NSW New England Region (aka, the country or ‘regional centre’), and we are getting married in the country, we decided to have our engagement photos in a coastal region, celebrating Summer and all its magic!
Our photographer Matt, from Feather & Birch Wedding Co. captured our stunning engagement photos. We chose Matt, who will also be our wedding photographer, not only for his talent for taking gorgeous wedding photos but also his laid-back nature and sense of fun, which helped us relax for our shoot.
Sam and I met at a party with mutual friends. After getting to know each other a little through events organised through friends, we went on a few dates together. I traveled to New Zealand for a pre arranged holiday after 3-4 weeks of dating and in a case of ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’, when I returned we both knew we were in love and it was right!
We were in Cairns enjoying a holiday when Sam decided to propose! We had spent the day on a cruise exploring the Great Barrier Reef. We had dinner in a lovely local pub, and afterwards, Sam suggested a walk by the Boulevard. I thought that a proposal might be imminent due to Sam stopping every 30 seconds to hug and ‘admire the view’ but then kept walking again once anyone drew near or walked past! Sam finally found a beautiful spot to propose by the water, and got down on one knee to ask the question. After enjoying the moment together, we celebrated with a glass of champagne and called family to tell the wonderful news.
Biggest learning’s from wedding planning: We are currently in the throws of wedding planning, as our wedding is about 2 months away. Our advice for newly engaged couples:
- Everybody says it but you have to make your own decisions, and not worry about what other people think. I consistently need to remind myself of this fact like everyday!
- Just relax and enjoy the planning process. At the end of the day, the most important thing is the commitment we are making to each other, so all the little things seem to fall into place when you focus on that.

Ms Gingham says: A lovely story! Congratulations Sam and Lisa!
About Lisa: I am a city girl turned country dweller! Since finishing studying my Masters degree last year, I am in dire need of a hobby, however wedding planning seems to be taking most of my time at the moment. I am looking into learning french and ballet classes – how exciting! Other activities I currently enjoy are reading books, cooking, keeping active, fishing, gardening and enjoying good food and wine with friends!
