Kelly & Sidney

There is a subtle beauty to today’s romantic Spring garden wedding. It’s got the most beautiful Spring light, the most beautiful Spring flowers and of course it’s all just as magic as a wedding can be. Captured beautifully by Oy Photography.

On how they met, the newlyweds remember, “We met through a mutual friend at a Karaoke night, we were introduced to each other and it was definitely not love at first sight. Sidney makes lame jokes like Chandler from ‘Friends’ and I categorized him as a typical male otaku, and Sidney thought that I was way out of his league. We then met each other again and again during different friends’ gatherings and somehow became very close and love just blossomed naturally.”

Kelly and Sidney chose Ascot House for their wedding, noting, “Our wedding was held at the stunning Ascot House on 5th of Oct 2014, the place where both Sidney and I fell in love with the moment we laid our feet in their enchanting and leafy garden. I’ve always wanted a garden ceremony and a reception venue with elegant & opulent interior details, so Ascot House turned out to be a perfect fit, plus it’s less than 15mins drive from our home which is always a bonus.”

For her walk down the aisle, Kelly tells, “I chose “The wedding song” by Julia & Angus Stone played when my bridesmaids walked down the aisle and my favorite song “How long will I love you” by Ellie Golding played as my wedding song.”

Of their photographer, Kelly notes, “Our planner Sarah introduced us to Oy Photography. We love her documentary approach and natural style so we didn’t look any further. It proved we made the right choice when we got our customized photo album, I feel like I’m flicking a wedding magazine looking at my own wedding photos lol.”

Potted succulents doubled as favors and a seating chat, Kelly explaining, “I’ve always loved succulents so I decided to give mini succulents as our wedding favours, and Sarah suggested why not having them doubled as a seating plan too? So there we had a cute bonbonniere table set up on a vintage dresser, where the guests had fun finding their seats and took home a hand wrapped little piece of love to let them grow!”

“We wanted a special/unconventional way to cherish their wishes for our big day. Therefore Sarah came up with this great guestbook idea of having customised wooden hearts for our guests to write their wishes on, and a flower clad vintage suitcase as a display board. It was also a great way to share our childhood and pre-wedding photos with the guests. This ‘guestbook’, along with cute signage and a wishing well birdcage, were set on a trio of vintage tables full of pretty blooms”.

Kelly remembers, “I guess most of the wedding stories you hear nowadays are quite similar, the day went by in a blink of an eye. If I had to pick a most memorable moment of the day, it would have to be Sidney’s speech. It was a heartfelt, intimate speech he wrote to express his feelings, most of the things he said during the speech, he had never expressed before. e.g: finally admitting that he is the one getting the better deal out of this marriage!. Most importantly, I know how much he dreads making a public speech, but he made it look so easy on the day, I knew he’d probably done many practices behind the scenes secretly, I was very touched with the efforts he has made.”

Of their first dance, Kelly remembers, “We were still indecisive about the song for our first dance two weeks before the big day. Finally we set our heart on ‘At Last’ by Etta James, which we practiced really hard with my mother-in-law as the dance instructor. On the day I was super nervous before we went on to the dance floor, but as soon as the music started, I just magically moved with the lyrics and spun around like I was on a carousel.”
