Vera Wang Spring 2015 Sydney0001

Stepping into the Vera Wang showroom at the Intercontinental Sydney is like walking into a fairytale. Where the outside world fades away and just for a moment, you are in a magical world of tulle, mystic and beautiful romance. A world where all wrongs are righted by the exquisite corded lace and there is no trouble too worrying that the perfect beaded belt can’t remedy!

Being welcomed into the Vera Wang showroom by candy coloured Laduree macaroons and the tinkling of tall stemmed champagne glasses, guests were personally taken through the collections on display (straight from the runways of NYC) by a Vera Wang consultant. While being introduced to the collection, it was explained that many of the gowns have optional additions such as beaded belts and lace boleros that work to suit each brides’ personal style. Additions such as these are also favoured amongst brides who may be observing particular cultural or religious practices on their special day – just one of the many reasons brides over the world choose Vera Wang!

Starting with the showing of the traditional ball gown designs, it was sheer indulgence for the guests to be within such close proximity to these fairytale-like gowns. Whilst being shown through these styles, the modern approach to the ball gown silhouette in the latest collection can only be described as pure innovative craftsmanship.

Moving away from the heavy designs that the modern bride tends to shy away from, ball gowns in this collection are light as a feather due to clever fabric manipulation techniques. Sculpted to still form the decadent ball gown shape, the cut of the tulle and the application of voluminous layers results in an almost weightless design with beautiful movement.

Moving through the ball gown styles, it was some of the most sought after pieces from the collection that were on display next; the A-line dresses! With elements including raw edging, horsehair lined ruffles, hand appliqued lace and grosgrain ribbon belts, these pieces are for the women who truly appreciate couture craftsmanship (or who just adore a beautiful gown!) How is it possible to choose just one though?

As guests proceeded into the second showing room, they were introduced to an exquisite array of mermaid silhouette gowns. Incorporating the same meticulous detailing as in the more voluminous styles, this is the figure flattering silhouette most favoured amongst our modern Australian brides! Sitting close to the body almost like a second skin, it then flares dramatically out into the skirt.
