For newlywed brides planning to escape the cold (Tahiti sounds nice!) and head to somewhere warm and sunny for their tropical honeymoon, it’s important to be completely prepared when it comes to your beauty bag.

Carli Alman, beauty expert and editor at beautyheaven.com.au, shares her expert beauty tips and product recommendations to ensure you’re equipped with the beauty know-how on your honeymoon.

Here are her ‘must have’ products to pack when escaping on your holiday of a lifetime:

1. Nourishment, Protection and Fighting Frizz

For those spending time in the ocean, seawater will most likely leave your hair feeling a little dry and brittle. It’s not a bad idea to keep nourishing hair oil in your bag. Avon Advanced Techniques Moroccan Argan Oil Leave-In Treatment will help nourish your dry, damaged locks and will leave your hair looking healthier and feeling softer and smoother.

The majority of us tend to suffer from frizz thanks to all the humidity and salt water so keep a serum in your beauty bag for on-the-go touch ups. Sunsilk Co-creations Frizz & Weather Defence Weather Protection & Shine Serum will help protect your hair from frizziness and dryness; it actually helps to protect your hair from the sun’s UV rays, too. Just make sure to keep your application light as too much can leave your hair looking a little oily.

2. Bad Hair Solutions

Sometimes your hair doesn’t quite do what you want it to, so it’s best to be prepared with some hair accessories. Just in case. Hair elastics, like Gliders Snag Free Hair Elastics, and bobby pins are always good options, but if you want something a bit chic, pack a Scunci No-Slip Grip Split Band or Lady Jayne Metal Ponytail Cuff for a hair fashion fix in seconds.

3. Waterproof Finishing Touches

If you’re spending days by the water, the last thing you want is to come out of the ocean with half your mascara and eyeliner running down your face. Applying budge, smudge, and sweat-resistant products before you leave the hotel will ensure your eyes will look defined all day and you won’t have to worry about that dreaded ‘panda look’!

Max Factor Waterproof False Lash Effect works wonders to add the volume and length to your lashes that you crave, and the formula won’t move at all, even if you decide to take a dip. If you need a bit more than just mascara to give your eyes definition, try Bourjois Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil. Formulated to withstand tears, sweat and water, the sea is certainly no match for it, either.

4 & 5. Heat – Friendly Coverage

Where there is sun, there is heat, so it pays to be smart about the products you apply before you head out. For example, heavy foundations may a bit too much if you’re heading somewhere humid and may come off after a few hours of sweating or a dip in the ocean.

For something with a bit more coverage, opt for a BB cream. Natio Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream will help cover imperfections, even out skin tone and leave skin looking dewy and radiant. The longwearing formula will also allow your skin to breathe, which is an added bonus in the heat. If you want light, sheer coverage, look for a tinted moisturiser with SPF. La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Tinted SPF50+ will give your skin a subtle, natural glow that’s perfect for a day at the beach.

6. Clean and Fresh

Just remember, when it comes to waterproof eye make-up, you’ll need a hard-working remover waiting for you at home. Bioderma Crealine H20, gentle as it may be for your skin, will remove all traces of your waterproof eye make-up at the end of the day.

7. A Good SPF

All island getaways involve the sun and it shouldn’t be news to you that the sun is harsh and could do some serious damage if you leave your skin unprotected. Within the last couple of years, SPF 50 sunscreens have made their way onto shelves, meaning that you can give yourself and your loved one maximum protection while you’re out at the beach.

For all over protection, use Le Tan Coconut SPF 50+ Spray is great; the coconut scent is glorious and the formula offers four hours of water-resistant protection. If you want something oil-free for your face, pack some Banana Boat Face Oil-Free SPF 50+.
