Katie & Tim

Katie and Tim wanted a day that involved their community, so from the flowers, to the food, their community pitched in and helped – even helping them source 150 wooden chairs for the reception! Combined with the fresh tones of yellow, the rustic backyard wedding turned into something very sweet. Katie and Tim chose James Goff Photography to capture their day.

The newlyweds met in high school, Katie remembering, “Tim and I met our first week of year 7 because we were in the same class. Our first words weren’t until year 8 maths class when we were seated next to each other. After three attempts of asking me out I finally said yes in year 12! Many people said having a boyfriend in year 12 would be a distraction but not for me! Tim was supportive and helpful and we worked together so well! Five years later here we are married, who would have guessed!”

Daisy wedding bouquets

The bride and her friends headed to the flower markets to create the wedding arrangements – bouquets of yellow and white daisies.

Jean Fox Only You Ella dress was chosen by the bride for her wedding gown, she tells, “When people asked me what my dress was like I descried it as simple but elegant. Shopping for a dress was fun as I got to try on many different styles, some I knew were not my style but I tried them anyway! I knew I wanted a lace dress with straps and a low back and it only took a few different places to find it with the help of my mother and sister. Jean Fox Parramatta is where my dress was from and when I called my mother in law to be to tell her, she told me it was the same place she got her dress 25 years ago! How special!” Katie’s bridesmaids wore yellow dresses by Warehouse from ASOS.

Handmade wedding cross

Katie and Tim chose Galston Community Hall for their ceremony, remarking, “The architecture of the hall was so beautiful that we only needed to hang a few flowers around and a tie a few hessian bows on the chairs to add to the feel.” The couple added a wooden cross, potted plants and homegrown wheat grass boxes.

Of the processional, Katie remembers, “We chose a cover of Higher Love by James Vincent McMorrow. This beautiful song represented the deep love we have for each other as well as the higher love we both have for our saviour Jesus Christ.”

Wedding ceremony at country hall

Dave Taylor officiated the ceremony, Katie remembering, “As Christians we wanted our ceremony to be centred around God. We recognise him as the creator and sustainer of marriage and wanted it to be clear to everyone who came along that this is what we believe. We chose to sing two songs and requested that they be ‘sung loudly’ which sounded so beautiful! The readings came from Genesis, the beginning of the bible where God tells us about how he created us and Ephesians in the new testament of the bible where God tells us how he designed marriage to be. We had a couple very special to us pray for us and commit our marriage to God and our pastor at church give an address on marriage and some advice for us as newly weds. It was a God glorifying ceremony!”

Of their photographer, Katie tells, “James has a relaxed photo-journalistic feel. He tries to focus on emotion and feelings rather than posed shots. He went out of his way to contact a mate in Sydney who had pontoon lighting, picked them up, came to my families’ home and set them up for us so that he had good lighting for the photos! He also visited prior to the wedding and trekked it through the bush to find a good location for our wedding photos! Champ! And we loved our engagement and wedding photos.”

Outdoor wedding reception

The reception festivities were held in the front yard of Katie’s family home. She tells, “It was very special having the wedding at my family home. In the months leading up to the wedding we fixed up the gardens, dad mowed every weekend and we designed, re-designed and planned how we wanted it to look. My brother made the coolest bar I’ve ever seen and my other brother made a wooden stage for his band to play on. Friends and family helped us collect 150 wooden chairs and various rustic decorations to set up around the place. We could do what we wanted with the space and it was so much fun!”

Katie remembers, “We made sure we included our family and friends in our special day. From being a part of the bridal party to signing the registry, MC-ing, saying grace, playing in the band and doing a speech to building, designing, creating and gardening they were there in everything. Two families working together becoming great friends!” Three huge dreamcatchers made by the newlyweds hung as decoration.

Dancing at outdoor wedding

Of their first dance, Katie remembers, “We did our first dance to an old song by Ben E. King called Stand by Me. We wanted it to be a bit fun and not too slow to dance to but also have meaningful lyrics. My aunty had it as her first dance song and we thought it would be special to have the same song. We didn’t do a choreographed dance as we wanted people to join in and this made it more fun!”
