Kate & Nathan

I love the gorgeous, modern feel to Kate and Nathan’s Canberra garden wedding. There is not much fuss, but boy, is there a lot of beauty. The couple chose James of All Grown Up Weddings  to capture their day.

Of how they met, Kate and Nathan tell. “We met through our younger brothers and bonded over a game of darts. The proposal was low key. We had planned to see midnight fireworks in Canberra but due to hours of board games at a friend’s place, we went home to watch the Sydney fireworks on TV. Just after the display kicked off Nathan suggested we start the year with a trip to a jeweler.

As read in their vows, Kate tells what she loves about Nathan. “There is so much I love about Nathan, his gentle nature, and endless patience, his devotion to his family, infectious giggle and deep brown eyes. Everything is so easy with him.”

Nathan remarks, “I love Kate’s compassion and generosity, and how supportive she is of everything I do. She makes me laugh and I admire her passion and strong will.”

Gwendolynne Ophelia Wedding Gown

Kate chose the Gwendolynne Burkin, ‘Ophelia’ gown, Nathan telling, “Kate’s Mum discovered Gwendolynne Burkin’s studio during a visit to Melbourne. After I proposed, she and her mum booked an appointment straight away. The dress, ‘Ophelia’, was the first dress Kate tried on. I remember her telling me she never felt more beautiful and the dress captured what she wanted for the day – romantic and whimsical. Gwendolynne and all her team took great care of Kate in all her appointments. I also thought Kate looked amazing in the dress.”

Moxom + Whitney created the floral arrangements for the day. Kate added special charms to the bouquet as a nod to loved ones who had passed.

For the processional, Nathan remembers, “Charles, our musician (Chicago Charles), played an acoustic version of Sigur Rós’ Hoppípola.”

Of their photographer, Kate remarks, “We loved having James share the day with us. He was patient, calm and a lot of fun. He went out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable, especially Nathan & I who were quite anxious about having our photos taken. James helped us relax and enjoy the experience and really captured the emotion of our day.”

Kate and Nathan remember, “We put together the  reception ourselves – little boxes of Haighs Chocolates with hand written notes tied off with string and wooden love hearts. Some of our friends made little decorations for the reception including miniature bunting for the card box. Another talented friend created our wedding cake.”

Of the first dance, Nathan remembers, “We hadn’t planned on having a first dance but our musician and guests insisted! We can’t remember the song; having not practiced we were concentrating on not stepping on each others toes.”
