The rate of couples choosing to marry on a weekday has doubled in the last financial year, according to a new survey which I have carried out through by business My Wedding Decor . Weddings held on a Monday through to a Thursday let couples secure their venue of choice, save money, have more time to decorate and to spend with guests.

According to my findings, twice as many couples marrying on weekdays to secure the venue, with weekday weddings now twice as popular with couples.

Surveying 357 brides whose wedding dates fell between 1 July 2015 and 1 January 2018, I found that Saturday remains the popular day, with 53.2% of couples, followed by Friday (14.3%), with Sunday in third place (11.8%). However, while Monday-Thursday accounts for only 20.1% of dates, the rate of weekday weddings has doubled from the 2015/2016 to 2016/2017 financial years from 5.6% to 13.2%.

Couples book mid-week weddings to secure their venue and preferred vendors, to save money on weekend rental prices, to spend more time with overseas guests, and to have more time to individually style their venue.

I also think most wedding vendors applaud this new trend. Everyone wins with weekday weddings. The couple gets the venue of their dreams, they can have an extended break with friends and family who have travelled a long distance to attend, and it is cheaper, faster and often easier for suppliers to deliver mid-week which mean they can offer lower prices.

Couples also get much more time to decorate their venue during the week without being rushed. Compare that to Saturdays when many venues provide you with as little as 90 minutes between weddings to set up the room from scratch!

Midweek is much more relaxed too as I found when I was married; our celebrations were held on a Wednesday lunchtime at Aqua Dining – and I was able to book it only five months before!
