Dan of Daniel Brannan is a wedding photographer who loves telling a story with his photographs – ‘it’s the best kind of story telling’, he says. Dan has a real sense of family and love, and the seemingly unimportant moments become moments that resonate with you as you see the interaction between your people. They say pictures are worth a thousand words and you can certainly lose yourself for hours, as you pore over his images. And you’ve gotta love someone who thinks pancakes with bacon and maple syrup are delicious – so do we!

We asked Dan of Daniel Brannan five questions in five minutes:

What is your favourite after five drink?

I start with an old fashioned and pretend I’m Don Draper from Mad Men until the whiskey kicks in, then I’ll switch to a Mornington Pale Ale.

Your favourite weekend getaway?

I’m lucky enough to live here – the (highly aesthetically pleasing) Mornington Peninsula so at weekends I’ll take my little boy for a swim in the ocean and swing by Red Hill Baker for some croissants after.

Favourite restaurant?

Red Hill Epicurean – a converted shed that makes best damn woodfire Pizza you’ll ever eat – great wedding venue too.

What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?

Canadian pancakes with bacon & maple syrup – I didn’t try this combo until a couple of years ago so I feel like I have to make up for lost time!

Your favourite wedding story?

I shot a wedding on New Year’s eve in Melbourne and my couple had their two beautiful children with them on stage. It was 40 degrees and everybody was in 1920’s dress up – it was the best atmosphere I had experienced and I remember Matt was holding his little boy and was completely overcome with emotion when he saw Sophie coming down the aisle. There was something magic about a couple who had been together for so many years with two beautiful children to express their love so openly – I felt very privileged to be there documenting such a moment. A bit soppy but this one stuck with me 🙂
