Smoeky eye makeup tutorial

Today we’re back again with the makeup looks from our Beachside Valentines Day Inspiration shoot (catch the first one Relaxed Romantic Wedding Makeup Tutorial). Today we’re sharing a chic natural smokey eye wedding makeup tutorial fit for a bride who wants something a little more than the classic bridal makeup style. I love this look for a more formal, grand wedding or for a night out where you want a little more definition on the eye.

Real bride Kathleen (who along with her fiance Nick were our models for the day) allowed our team to work their magic on this look with hair & makeup artist Tia from Artistry Co teaming up with stylist Katherine Eleyce (Ms Filigree) for Polka Dot Bride and photographer Welsch Photography at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel. A grand picnic was set on the beach (see more of that on our Valentines Day post) and Kathleen wore a shimmering sequin gown by Adrianna Papell from Bridesmaids Only with jewels from  Glamadonna and Roman and French

Tia from Artistry Co joins us again to share  step by step instructions (including our beauty toolbox with each product we used on the day) to help you recreate this look for yourself!

Step One

We started with the same base as our Relaxed Romantic Wedding Makeup Tutorial.

We wanted a light and natural look with some extra coverage over areas that needed it. So we chose the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better™ CC Cream (Available at Sephora) and buffed it into the skin with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush (Available at Priceline). For areas that needed something a little heavier, we worked Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and Firm Makeup Cream Foundation in Vanilla Shell 02 into the skin.

Step Two

To assist in concealing dark circles, blemishes and lifting the under eye are we chose the Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer in Light #10 (Available at Priceline). The doe foot applicator works well for precise concealing but also allows plenty of room to blend – this is best when using the warmth of your skin to work it into those areas with your finger.

To cover dark circles, imperfections and lift the under eye area, we used the Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer in Light #10 (Available at Priceline). The doe foot applicator allows for pin point concealing but also makes it easier to cover larger areas such as under the eye. Work it into the skin using the warmth of your finger.

Step Three

To remove shine and ensure the base lasted all day we used L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Powder Foundation in Warm Vanilla 123  (Available at Priceline) to set Kathleen’s makeup.

Step Four

The rosy shade of Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Radiance Blush in Sunblush gave Kathleen a natural blush tone while adding a little colour, We blended the blush into the cheeks, following up with the Ellie Makeup Pressed Blush Bronzer Duo Glow in Dusk for a little more colour depth.

Step Five

For this smokey eye look, we chose the gorgeous IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 2 Matte Luxe Transforming Eyeshadow Palette (Available at Sephora). Choosing the pinky brown shades of Adore and Romance, buff these softly over the lids.

Step six

To define the crease, use a soft fluffy brush and the darker brown shade Embrace and blend this into the crease of the eye socket. Add the rich chocolate shade Fate to the outer corners of the eye.

Step Steven

To give this look added smokiness, we also took the chocolate shade of Fate and worked it into Kathleen’s lower lashline.

Step Eight

To line Kathleen’s eye, we chose the Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Cosmic Brown to the lower lashline and softly buffed it out.

Step-Nine

A key component of the smokey eye look is plenty of mascara, so we started off priming our model’s eyes with IT Cosmetics Tightline® Full Lash Length Black Mascara Primer (Available at Sephora) and then finished off with plenty of coats of IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes® 5-IN-1 Mascara (Available at Sephora).

Step Eleven

A beautiful pink gives this look the wedding seal of approval, so we chose to line Kathleen’s lips with the  Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Precision Glide Lip Liner in Natural #06, then colour with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lip Color Lipstick in Brazen Beige (Available at Priceline)

Step Ten

To finish the look and add colour to the face, we added a little depth  by softly dusting bronzer around cheeks and blending with Ellie Makeup Pressed Blush Bronzer Duo Glow in Dusk.
