I’m a firm believer that every celebration should begin with Champagne! Which is why I love this tutorial! What better way to thank your guests for their presence and start your wedding festivities than with a sweet little message in the form of a welcome Champagne.

These berry Champagne swizzle sticks are easy to create ahead of time and are a simple way to personalize your celebrations. Be creative with what you include as your message – a ‘thank you’ to your guests would work beautifully, your monogram, the date of your wedding or a verse from your favourite sonnet – there are no limits.

Just think of it as the perfect combination of thoughtfulness and celebration, with a berry surprise at the end – what’s not to love about that?

What you’ll need:

Skewers (I used 15cm lengths)

A4 plain white paper

Scissors

Gluestick or glue tape

Blueberries

Raspberries

Champagne glasses

& Champagne (of course!)

What to do:

Step One Trim the long side of your piece of paper by approximately 5.5cm so the width of the A4 sheet is approximately 15.5cm.

Step Two Fold the paper in half, lengthwise and cut 1.5cm strips. These will form your flags.

Step Three If you are writing on your flags, now is the time. We wrote the word ‘love’ and alternated with a love heart motif.

Step Four Glue the inside of the folded strip and place the end of a skewer so it sits at the fold. Fold the paper and smooth together.

Step Five Trim the end of your flag into a point.

Step Six Assemble the berries on to the end of the skewer. We used two blueberries followed by a raspberry.

Step Seven Place the skewer into a champagne glass and top with champagne. Cheers!

Other Hints & Tips:

  1. There are no rules when it comes to colour and style of flag. I decided on classic white but a gold foil sparkler, a navy and white square or a pop of hot pink would be a definite statement.
  1. You could use any type of berry and in any combination – three blackberries would look beautiful or a simple single strawberry for a more classic look.
  1. The flags can be made as far in advance as you have the chance to create them, however it is best to assemble the berries on the day of the ceremony for freshness.
