Alex and Lee

Lee proposed to me on a bridge overlooking a waterfall that leads to a secluded gully filled with platypus in a rainforest in the Atherton Tablelands. Lee chose the idyllic spot because it was the first place I took him when he visited my home. This spot is very meaningful to me –  as it was the place I ‘escaped to’ when I was growing up. I could not think of a more beautiful and perfect place for him to propose.

We celebrated our wedding day by staging “WedFest 2016”, a celebration of our love, in of course our own quirky way. It was held on April Fool’s Day, so of course it was a day full of laughter, love, fun times and a celebration of our togetherness!

I purchased my stunning Pronovias Barcelona dress from Luv Bridal; it was a princess-style design in satin with V-neck bodice which gathered at the bust. It featured a draped sash to the waist. and had a pleated skirt with side pockets. My hair and make up were done by Arvie Salon and my beautiful flowers were designed by Nine Blooms.

We decided on a ‘first look’ prior to our ceremony. We kept it quite private with only our best man and maid of honour in attendance.

We decided to only have a maid of honour and a best man. No bridesmaids or groomsmen. Not only did this keep costs down and reduce the complexity of the proceedings but it also helped us to side step potential issues about who we would have (and not have) chosen to be groomsmen and bridesmaids. The first look also enabled us to have some spectacular photos taken around Lake Eacham – a beautiful part of the Tablelands!

Our ceremony took place at the award winning Mt Quincan Crater Retreat – a romantic rain forest isolation on the slopes of an extinct volcano which boasts magnificent views of the crater and the Atherton Tablelands.

Before our reception at my parents’ house we had some amazing photographs taken by Blue Sky Photography.

My parents’ house is so meaningful to Lee and me and it’s also naturally beautiful being situated in amongst the rainforest.  It also gave us the added bonus of being free to style our reception in our own unique way.  And so, we decided on ‘Wedfest’ – a music festival inspired wedding with a Mexican flavour!

Lee even purchased a pair of bright blue and pink ‘flamingo’ socks for himself and his best man – which matched back to the Flamingo Bar!

The wedding cake was a two-tiered Turkish delight chocolate mud-cake with real Turkish delight pieces added throughout. It also boasted custom made ‘graffiti street art.’ Suffice to say, it, along with rest of our fun wedding day, was a massive hit!!
