Behind The Door With Inglewood Inn

This week on Behind the Door I’m visiting gorgeous Adelaide and a venue that’s so special they named the whole town after it, Inglewood Inn in Inglewood! A family run business, Inglewood Inn is a historic building that includes a bistro, bar and function space as well as stunning gardens that make it the perfect place for a wedding.

I meet Milly the function coordinator who also happens to be the daughter of the Inglewood Inn owners, so you know you are in good hands. Milly tells me that she puts her heart and soul into every wedding and you can tell she really loves her job.

Ceremonies are usually held in the lush gardens and in front of the clusters of tall elm trees. Milly tells me that guests can enjoy drinks at the ceremony from the built-in bar and that it’s a perfect spot for guests to play lawn games or just relax and enjoy the surrounds. For photos, couples are spoilt with rolling hills, secret gardens and a beautiful stream.

Then it’s upstairs to the function space built right into the hill to enjoy panoramic views across the Adelaide Hills, Para River, Elm Trees and gardens. Milly tells me they designed the space to be beautiful and historic yet modern enough that couples can decorate it however they like.

“What we are really famous for is our food” says Milly. “We source everything as locally as possible and put a lot of care into creating interesting and beautiful menus.” The venue hosts tasting nights twice per year and Milly tells me she loves it when couples get to try something unexpected that you might not usually have at a wedding. “The quail is my favourite” says Milly. “Couples try it and then immediately want it on their wedding menu!” There’s also lots of attention to the drinks list; couples can choose from a range of local wines and beers, some of which come from wineries just down the road.

I ask Milly if she has any funny stories about weddings at Inglewood Inn and she tells me about the time a goat ‘gate-crashed’ a wedding and wanted to eat the bouquets. A bridesmaid had to use hers to lure the goat into a nearby paddock!  Milly tells me that what makes Inglewood Inn so special is the attitude of the couples who choose to get married there. “They are always so relaxed and lovely” says Milly. “It makes it such a pleasure to host their celebrations.”

I love to talk shop with other business owners (particularly over some chocolate cake!) and am the first to try and have a sticky beak behind the scenes of any event. My free time is spent ‘investigating’ new cafes, stores and events.
